Looting Guidelines
It has come to our attention that some of our members are confused about loot rules in general. The following are basic examples and guidelines that you will find at work in almost all groups. Sometimes they are said, sometimes they are left unsaid. Following these guidelines should keep you out of loot problems in most ordinary cases. These guidelines are by no means complete or cover every aspect of looting. Any group can create a set of loot rules that override the generally accepted loot rules. Whatever the rules are in the group you are in, do follow them.
General items to remember about loot:
- Set loot rules before starting work with a group and then follow them.
- Loot isn’t always about what you wear; everybody has different reasons for gaining loot. Some will be looking for items to disenchant, others are looking for items to sell on AH for money and others are looking for something better to wear, or for set items.
- Loot won in the group belongs to the members of the group. Do not roll on items just because an alt of yours can use it.
- Loot you attain is yours and there is no obligation that you share the loot with guild members. If you can not use it, you are free to vendor it, auction it, disenchant it or donate it to a guild member of your choice or donate it to the guild leader or co-leaders to be distributed as they see fit.
- DO NOT loot or practice gathering trades while the group is still in battle. This is an extremely rude practice, if you find yourself doing it, STOP IT! If you are out of mana as a priest, warlock or mage, you are more useful if you begin to melee the mobs then to loot the dead mobs. There is nothing more annoying then having a roll window popup while you are still engaged in a battle.
Skinning / mining / herbalism (Gathering Skills)
Always wait for the battle to be over before engaging in any gathering trades. Always ask if it is ok to begin gathering, and ask if there are others who are interested. If there are others who have the same gathering trades, perform a free roll for who will take the first item. Alternate between everybody with the same gathering skill after that.
Roll on Chests / Lockers / Crates / Stashes
The general guideline on WoW is either to:
Roll on the entire chest or locker \ stash as you find it or,
Roll on specific items in the chest or locker \ stash.
Bind on Equiped (BoE)
Free roll on all BoE items. If somebody in the group would like to have a specific item (ie…a set of gloves drops that is better then what they have), let them have it and ask that they equip it.
Bind on Pick up (BoP)
Only roll if you will actually use the item. BoP items can not be traded or auctioned, so an accidental roll and win can not be undone. If everybody passes on a BoP, have a free roll as if it were a chest.
Blue, epic and greater items
Roll on blue, epic or greater items only if you can use them. If you win a blue, epic or greater item, do not roll on other blue, epic or greater items. Limit yourself to one, even if more then one item that you can use drops. If everybody passes on a blue, epic or greater item, hold a free roll amongst those who have not already won a blue, epic or greater item.
Rogues and Pick Pocketing
Do not pickpocket while with groups, especially in instances. Failed attempts at pick pocketing will pull monsters onto yourself and the group. This is a good way to ensure that you are no longer welcome in groups. If you plan on practicing pick pocketting while in a group, plan on practicing the suicide pull as well. Do the group a favour and die without bringing the mobs onto them.
Consequences for not Following Loot Rules
People who break loot rules bring down the morale of the group, risk personal reputation and risk guild reputation.
Group leaders have final say on consequences for breaking group loot rules. Set them and enforce them. Breaking generally accepted rules are often met with being dropped from the group. (for example: A mage rolling on a BoP plate item often is met with the mage being dropped from the group without warning.) You may be willing to forgive when somebody rolls on a BoE blue item as the item can be traded to the person who can use it.
If you are the leader of a group that is made up of non-guildies, that has a member that is breaking loot rules, the other party members will expect you do put a stop to it. If the leader of a group you are in is breaking loot rules, you can drop yourself from the party.
Consequence: Guild Members
Guild members breaking loot rules will be warned. Continuance of breaking loot rules may result in expulsion from the guild and possibly from ToJ. We are a guild of Christian WoW players and greed has no place amongst our members.
