Radeon HD 7850/7870 vs. GeForce 560 Ti/660 Ti

No, I haven't given up on upgrading my system yet. I'm just waiting on better sales.

While I do, I'd at least like to slim down my list of options for video cards and mainboards.

For video cards, I'm looking at Radeon HD 7850, Radeon HD 7870, GeForce 560 Ti, and GeForce 660 Ti cards.

At this time (and this is highly subject to change), I'm leaning toward either the Radeon HD 7870 or the GeForce 660 Ti cards. I have no particular allegiance to either brand as I've had positive and negative experiences with both ATI/AMD and nVIDIA.

I don't want this to turn into an AMD vs. nVIDIA fanboy war, but I understand previous experiences (both positive and negative) will come into play. Just please check your hyperbole (e.g. COMPANY X IS THE GRATEST EVAR, COMPANY Y IS TEH DEVIL) at the door.

Budget remains an issue, but I've remembered how much I dislike researching hardware for personal purchase (thus why I'm asking the CGA community for help) and I don't want to have to do this again for 3-5 years while still having a current rig to play at least most new PC games at mid-high graphics settings.

I used to stick with Nvidia, but lately AMDseems to be "on" ...I have been having no issues with my current Radeon card and it performs like a beast. Through the years I have used AMD for a few years, switched to Nvidia for a few years, and now back again with AMD. My next video card will likely be AMD. My vote is on the 7870

Again, as with the Asus - I have been an AMD fan for a long time. Although - I have never had a bad experience with either.

Hm, this video card looks great AND it has a lifetime warranty: XFX Double D FX-787A-CDFC Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card

EDIT: Strike that, this is my new pick: XFX Double D FX-787A-CDBC Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition Black Edition 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card

Same price after rebate, slightly higher clock speed, and (supposedly) better for overclocking (which I might be too paranoid to try). Still, same price after rebate! :D

EDIT#2: Credit to Pheonix28 sending me that link in IRC (and posting it below). :)

I like my 2gb 6950. No issues whatsoever, and I'm supposedly able to flash the cards bios to allow me to unlock it to the standard of a 6970. I have a Nvidia 9600GT before this card, and I liked that card too. Pretty much at this point I believe video card choice is going to come down to personal preference. I don't think there is much of a price difference.

I'd look for one that can handle GW2 at the highest settings and runs cool while playing games. My 550ti won't go above 55c while gaming during the summer months, but it can't run GW2 at the highest settings. Not sure if that helps. I got the card I have because of the cooling on it.

I'd go with the ATi card. I've used ATi cards for ever and only once gave nVidia a chance... and they blew it lol. The card died 1.5 years after I bought it.

I've never had a bad ATi card.
