I'm working on a video presentation for deputation. In it I talk about bad choices military spouses make at times because of their isolation. If I used a picture of a box of Tide on the front step or a picture of a mop in the window would you know what it meant?

I guess I should have added this part.

It basically means "My husband is away/deployed and I'm lonely. Come in if you want to have some fun."

I'm trying to see how well known it is outside of military circles as well as in. It's sort of the military equivalent of an ankle bracelet on women.

I was a military brat and was active duty myself for about 13 years and never heard of that. I never noticed a box of Tide on a porch or a mop in a window. Maybe it's a newer thing (I got out in 1995) or more prevalent in certain services (I was Air Force)?

Ex military. Never heard of it. My only known similarity was a woman I knew who cruised the on base NCO club while hubby was away, but she never "gave anything away" so to speak.

Box of Tide is pretty much Navy specific from people I've talked to.
I was exposed to the mop in the window (or a red porch light) when I was stationed in Germany during Dessert Storm. I've also seen it a few times since then on stateside posts. Some wives don't know what it means and do it by accident but there are a few who do know and still do it.

Most people don't seem to have heard of it so I'm gonna have to change my deputation video a bit but I've talked to enough people who do know about it to know it's real.

Thanks.

I've been a contractor with the Navy for the past 6 years (I'm around them daily). I've never heard of this. Granted, I'm not much of a social butterfly.
