question about ToJ

I was wondering if this statement, that is from the profesion of faith, is refering to just the books of the Bible or to the prophetic gifts also? I have the gift of prophetic vision sometimes and wanted to make sure that when i said "yes" to this statement, I wasn't saying that I didn't believe in the gifts that the Lord gave me. It might be a silly question but I realized today that I entered into an agreement and signed a statement that may go against my beliefs and the gifts of the Spirit. This is the statement.

The Bible is a single volume, without sequel or addendum. (Revelation 22:18-19)

Which I agree with completely. However, I know that some factions in the Christian community take that to mean that prophecy can't exist anymore either.
I need to know what ToJ meant by that statement please.

I love you all and don't want to cause any stress or trouble but I need this clarified.

May the blessing of the Lord be upon you all.

Wow, that's a loaded question.

I suppose I have to start by asking a question in return: How do you define prophecy?

EDIT: Just for the record: When I established ToJ in May 1999, I wrote the original statement of faith with the intention of including all legitimate Christian denominations. The particular section of the statement of faith you quoted was added a few years later to explain why we do not allow Mormons to join Tribe of Judah.

It's still my intention to welcome Christians from all legitimate denominations, so I've taken care not get into specifics in the statement of faith.

i think that answered my question actually :)

I didnt mean whole new books of the bible that contradict other parts of the bible :).
I mean when the Lord sais to me "..." and I know who the message is for. When I get a word of knowledge about someone I am witnessing to, so that they know the Lord is real today. Those types of things.
For instance.
My wife and I were praying one day a few months back and she got a vision about two intertwined wedding bands spinning around eachother. They spun just fine for a minute and then they started to come apart. So she prayed it back to God and He told her that it was not aobut us. So we prayed it back to him and later on that night while we were praying in cell group, I got a vision that filled in the details. The Lord showed me that the enemy was going to attack marriage in our church. He even showed me which marriages and why the enemy was specifiacally going to target marriage in our church. The Lord also showed me that the attack hadn't come yet and that it was an assignment for a specific spirit to handle. I knew that He was telling us that the attack could be thwarted before it started if we started praying against it now. So we took the vision to the elders of our church and they started praying about it and had a big intercecery prayer meeting over marriages in our church. Now the marriages are fine at this point. If we had not gotten the message from the Lord about it however, they might not be.
This is what I meant by prophecy. Any word from the Living God for the edification of His church.
We are not mormons. My family and myself are followers of Christ. As He is a God who is alive today and He has put His Holy Spirit within us to be our Great Counselor, we should be hearing his voice. Christ said that everything He did, the Father told Him to do. Then He said that we are to live the way that He lived. That means that we should be in real contact with our God. Paul said in Corinthians that we should all seek the gift of prophecy for the edification of the church and our brothers.
This is what I mean by prophecy.

Sorry I didnt mean to ask a loaded question Tek. I just have to be true to my God.

Does this answer your question?

Does this answer your question?
Aye, it does.

The Charter doesn't specifically address this point, so you're clear to join without betraying your conscience.

I know this is a controversial point for many Christians, but I wanted to point out that ratinox is discussing local, not global, prophecy. Scripture (which includes the statements of Old Testament prophets as provided by God) is written to a global audience. As long as local prophecy (such as the example provided by ratinox) agrees with Scripture, the subject of local prophecy may remain controversial--but not essential to core tenets of faith.

I knew exactly at what he was getting at with his description. I was all like "dude you are fine, you won't be betraying your belief system by signing up." Just had this type of discussion in WoW last night where we talked about the bible being fully true but based on your maturity in faith, where you were with your walk in Christ, different aspects of biblical text take on new and different meanings. So long as the meaning was temperred by God through his word and not on your own understanding, you would find that it was all meaningful and good.

The Bible says what it says. :D

1Co 12:7 But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.
1Co 12:8 For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit;
1Co 12:9 to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit,
1Co 12:10 and to another the effecting of miracles, and to another prophecy, and to another the distinguishing of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, and to another the interpretation of tongues.
1Co 12:11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually just as He wills.

Captain is right! A gift such as that is a gift you can't help but recognize, but most fear sharing. Note; that the gift is for good things and if you see danger/trouble ahead and you fail to share then it could become an added guilt, and if you share, you could end up being called goofy. Don't sweat the goofy part.
I sometimes see things I can't comprehend at times,(got one now that bothers me) and sometimes it comes in a dream and sometimes it comes in visions, but I brush it off and later end up calling it deja vu.

This is just my 2 cents worth. I was going to post 1 Corinthians 12:10, but Captain beat me to it by a long shot. Also, never forget that God will do what he pleases in order to protect his church. The way in which He does it is his sovereign choice. From what I can tell, this appears that you and your wife were his messengers used to save the church, if not at least part of the church.
