question about Macbook pros

ok soo im getting somewhat ready to buy one (like 2 weeks till i can) and im looking at them and cant decide.
Its going to be mostly for college but i am going to have some games (possibly wow and other games like that) on it. Im not sure on a major but im pretty sure it wont require any heavy duty graphics or anything like that.
I think im leaning more towards the 15 inch just because its in between the 2 and is still light. But i cant decide on what processor like the 2.4, 2.53, or the 2.66 and i figure this is a good place to ask! any suggestions are welcomed :)

I have a mac book pro in my house, is that enough research? :p

If it's for college, and you must get a mac, I'd go 15 inch, and 2.6 processor if it's not too much more than the 2.4 or 2.53. Any of those processors will work for most things out right now though.

EDIT: My main reasons for saying macs are overpriced garbage, is that PCs are more compatible with most programs, Macs are really more of a photography/high graphic computer, and for a PC laptop with the same components as a Mac, it's MUCH cheaper, because you really pay for the name on Macs.

if you price out the hardware they are actually about the same. Ask mordos he was the one i believe who did a project on it

I have an Acer One netbook I got just over a year ago for $350 and it's still working like new and never locks up... even after I upgraded from XP to 7. It doesn't miss a beat!

I totally think MacBooks are overpriced for what they are - aluminum encased PCs with a different OS (and if we are going to be honest, an OS that's all form and no function). I do see lots of MacBooks at school, I won't lie, but the only reason I think can validate needing a MacBook is if you are going into a media or art program.

I built a Dell Studio 15 to the specs of a comparable MacBookAppliance and, well, the price is definitely not "about the same".

Dell Studio 15 -
Processor: Intel Core i3-350M 2.26ghz
Memory: 4gb DDR3 1066mhz
HD: 500gb @7200rpm
Video: ATI Mobility Radeon HD4570 512mb
Warranty: 3 Years
Price: $1033.00

MacBook (Middle Option) -
Processor: Intel Core i5 2.53
Memory: 4gb DDR3 1066mhz
HD: 500gb @5400rpm
Video: (I took it off the Apple site because I don't know what this smoke and mirrors stuff is...): "Intel HD Graphics5 and NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M with automatic graphics switching." Either way the Dell's Radeon is superior.
Warranty: AppleCare 3 year (A necessity when you can't service it yourself...)
Price: $2,498.00

I don't know how that price is justified. A better battery and aluminum case is NOT worth an extra $1,465.

Apple fans = elitists

yes we are! :p

and galatians...i would get the low end model of the screen size you want. if you're just gonna play WoW...i wouldn't worry bout the hardware. their min models hold enough for us. Cakey has the base model 13 inch and WoW runs just fine for her.

If i was an avid gamer and played a bunch of different games besides WoW...i'd just get one of the dozen of programs that would allow me to play PC games on my Intel Mac...I'd much rather take the extra effort than go back to my old PC hassles...and yes...i've played both sides for plenty long and mac wins for me. Not everyone...but it does for me

thanks angry for actually answering my question.
I didn't want to start a mac vs pc debate because honestly i don't care. I've had both and ive heard both sides and i stick with my mac so please don't open that can of worms. I just wanted help on deciding not get told i shouldnt get a macbook

go with the 13, and get another monitor if you want more real-estate for serious gaming or productivity.

This is just my opinion, again.

The way macs are priced right now, I would get an iMac over a macbook pro. 13" is just too small for me and by the time you get into the 15/17" pros...you can get one of the mid-tier iMac's for the same price while slamming a ton more specs into it. The only time I would ever use a laptop for college or grad school was to take notes in class and honestly, I hardly ever do and when I do...I just hand write em anyway. Having a laptop in class would just mean I hit the wi-fi and play WoW :p

But if an iMac wasn't an option, I would probably get a 15" just to have a bigger screen. Cakey's 13 is nice, but playing on my 24" iMac for close to 3 years has me spoiled for that bigger screen.

Taveeran also holds a nice option as well. It's what my brother does, actually. It just requires a little more desk space and hardware.

From a guy that carries around a large laptop all the time I would get a small (powerful) laptop and get an external monitor, like Angry said, because hauling around a 10 lbs. bag is a pain. Just my thoughts.

well i have an imac already so i could just get a new one cause mine is 3+ years old now but it has a new 1tb (think thats right) hard drive and still runs wonderfully, so i was thinking just a laptop to go with it would be a good option
maybe get the 15 but get an external hard drive so i can keep everything between the 2 computers?
