PvP Spike Groups

Since we have been doing poorly in the pvp and guild arenas i would like to form a few spike groups, below i will describe the few requirements, and add some basic info to help you into a spike group.

Air Spike
5 Air Elementals - note: you need 16 air (sup rune is like 650)
2 (heal)monks (prot isnt very effective)
a necro or mesmer(interrupt/energy degen would be nice)

Air Skills
Chain Lightning (10 energy + exaustion)
Lightning Orb (15 energy)
Lightning Strike (5 energy)
Air Attunement (10 energy)

Earth Skills: (i recommend you have 5-7)
Ward against <melee or elements> (10 and 15 energy)

No Attribute
Rez sig
Glyph of Elemental Power (5 energy)

It is imperitive that the elementalists have TS
and are on listening, or else the spike group WILL fail.

The objective of a spike group is to kill a enemy in one barrage. With air spike the leader will call the new target, eles switch to it (the support teammates TARGET OTHER PEOPLE), then a spell is called, "chain in 3..2..1" then you cast on 1. before engaging attunment is called, then glyph just before engaging.

Only Orb and Chain are called to spike, after you press the spell, immediatly hit lightning strike, it is imperitive that spikers do this or we wont kill many people...

a spike leader must be a spiker, and needs to know
different builds and how to counter them.

I can cover the necro/mesmer with Loew or one of the air spiker positions with Owen.

Thanks for setting this up. It was something we noticed Friday that for Tombs, and possibly for GvG, a specialty build can work well, we just have to watch for the weaknesses of the build and know how to guard these weaknesses. I think we'll have to set up several of these different build teams and give them a try. The other would be the ranger spiker build we saw Friday. Between UW trapping runs and PvP, I'm gonna have to dust off my ranger soon too.

For an air spiker build, weaknesses would be interrupts and energy draining mesmers. Leaders would have to make sure these were primary targets.

If we can get enough players signed up here, I would suggest we run PvP night on Friday with this build. Another possibility is that we start another PvP night (Tuesdays?) to run Tombs with builds.

As for the "burden of leadership," I agree as well. My role in the guild is to coordinate PvP activities. I will do my best as a leader from time to time, but one person will not be able to be an effective leader for every build type and we will need specialists to help manage our efforts. It sounds as if Vibro is stepping up here for the air spiker team. I would suggest we have alternate leaders as well.
 
Tuesdays would work great with me, fridays get a little crazy now and then. Wens and sunday are no go as i work at church.

Ultimately i would like to see several coordinators/leaders planning events for their builds.

I think we should plan a major even after the new years to introduce people into the challenging area of pvp. Air Spiking is fun because you get a ton of faction, every 5 seconds or so you can kill a enemy. Even if a player is brand new to the game they can create a pvp character (like a monk or necro) and get into the game, eventually they will earn enough faction to buy all the necessary skills on that pvp char.

We need to get the lower levels and people who dont play often into the arena where they can have fun and fellowship with fellow Christians.

I believe that if God wants us to do PvP, he WILL make us sucessful, maybe it is time for us to stop cowering behind our mask and fight for our cause.

I cannot wait to get into this kind of stuff. But unfortunately, I just started my Ele/mez this week and I need tons more experience (and skills) to get to Air Spiking level. Will be shweet though in a few weeks.
 
We need people to take their current eles and go to the air build above, we cant do this without people to fill the build
 
I am an Air Spiker that no one wants unless I use fire So I am totally up for this Although I am guessing Earth Skills for Defense. I will have to get Ward Against Melee.

Even if you are fire, you can get a second eye (headpiece for ele) and apply the sup rune (bought mine for 550g last night). Get a decend air weapon and you're all set. You just have to reassign your attribute points while playing PvP to air. I would like to get Owen to Perdition Rock to capture Elemental Attunement, otherwise, I think Owen is all set for this build.

Ember Light Camp is the town you go to after finishing the Thunderhead Keep mission in the southern Shiverpeaks. It is the entrance to the Ring of Fire Islands. Completing Thunderhead is the only way to get there.

I am hoping we can start a spike group this tuesday(dec 6th) and do tombs or if we dont have enough, team arenas.

This friday I am going to be gone that night(Cronices of Noria), so i wont pvp that night
 
I also have a battery Necro and Monk that I can switch too. I'm really looking forward to doing more Tombs, I want some fame ;)

Any tips for Monks in PvP? I remember one round when I used my warrior that I beat on the Monk the whole time and never came close to killing him (sucker taunted me when it was over too).

I don't think my Monk could do that. I either get energy robbed or targeted and killed. I want to be an asset not a liability.
 
what i usually equip on my pvp monk are the mesmer spells ele/physical resistance, for 10 energy you get instant protection for ~54 seconds then orision and healing touch can heal yourself, plus in the same attribute are several energy stealing spells

Here is my skillset that i use on characteristic evil:
1. Divine Intervention
2. Heal Other
3. Word of healing
4. Orison of healing
5. Healing touch
6. Physical Resistance
7. Ether Lord (for when energy reaches 0)
8. Res Sig

all my healing spells are ordered for easy hotkey use, with 4 and 5 being self heals
also i have 16 healing and 12 divine, so i heal for 90-120 w/ a 5 cost spell
