PVP Rogues and weapons questions

I've been trying to research rogues that do pvp and what they're specs are. So far I've found most to be sublty spec all they way to shadow step. The most of them have swords and are about a 53% win rate in pvp. If some of you who pvp can get some names or guild names of frequent pvp'rs so I can include them in my research, armory has to have names and guilds to start the search. Is there a site I'm missing about pvp?

Is there a difference between weapons. I've been to the wow site to see if I can find anything on weapons and couldn't locate a disssertation at all. Do maces cause stun action because they are maces or just because of rogue combat talent. Why swords over daggers?

I don't want to respec or buy new weapons with hard earned honor points until I've done a bit of research. Any thoughts? Suggestions?

I have done a lot of research on this as far as reading hours on the rogue forums. Sub build is the most popular build a 20/0/41 for PvP. I am only level 64 but ran a sub build till level 62 the mobility is nice and you won’t to use mace or swords. You wont to use swords or mace do the higher damage number so when you use Hemo or other talents you just do more damage. As far as wither a mace stuns without the combat build I don’t think it does. I don’t ever remember when I used a mace stunning anyone. I could be wrong on that I just don’t remember it stunning anything. I just change to a Mutilate build because of the changes coming in 2.4 patch. Mutilate getting a buff with a 15 % change to crit which should give you a about 50% to crit every time you use it. Also for PvE they are going to make poison be able apply to more creatures so you can use Mutilate. With using daggers and specking 41/0/14 right now and the damage I am doing is much higher than the sub build. Once I hit 70 and if I need a little more mobility is go 41/20/0 of the extra mobility with imp sprint.

Subtely spec is def the best pvp rogue spec ive seen since blizz nerfed prep/hemo spec. and when you almost die you have cheat death top keep you alive for those precious 5 ~ 6secs u might need to kill some1, as for weapons its all on preference. You could go swords for the extra swing dps, or maces for the crit and stun, or fists for the dmg/crit, ive seen most rogues all the way sub with some improved sinister strike points, personally i think you should just play around with it and see what you like best for pvp

Thank you for your help and replies. My impression from what you are saying is that swords and maces actually do better dmg in use of rogue talents. That helps a lot to know. Is there a site that talks about it or can you explain it for an unmathmatical person to understand?

daggers will produce more damage as long as you have the best daggers available and can stay behind your opponent, swords/mace/fist damage is linear no matter which way you are facing. The mace stun is pretty awesome, I dueled Cass the other night twice and was hardly able to move between his CS/KS and mace stuns, and it was a very long duel since I had over 17k health at the time:P

"swords and maces actually do better dmg in use of rogue talents"

Like where said daggers are great but cost lots of money to keep up with damage of swords or mace. If you spec heavy assassin to get Mutilate then you are going to use two daggers. You spec heavy combat or Sub you going to won’t to use swords and maces. You also spec combat to level the fastest but combat is not a whole lot of fun to me so I leveled Sub.

The things that make swords and maces better in combat are the stuns for maces and extra swing for swords. The things that make swords and maces better in sub and combat is they have a higher damage. People usually get the slowest sword or mace because it was higher damage numbers. This cause bigger crits and because how hemo and sister is cause more damage. With my assassin build I use sinister a little but my combo points come from crits, backstab, and mutilate.

When I was learning about pvping in arena I looked at the builds of classes that were among the top ranked to see why. I think every rogue I saw used maces, because those extra % stun procs are invaluable. So I'd definitely say maces is the way to go.

This has been helpful. Thank you all, now I'm trying to decide what I want to do. Last questions that I forgot, since I can't afford to upgrade everthing at same time, is it better to upgrade weapons first or armor?

In BG and World PVP daggers can be a lot of fun, especially when you can almost one shot clothies, but when it comes to the Arena I think maces are a much better choice. Everyone has tons of resilience and daggers get hit harder than any other spec because of their reliance on big burst crits rather than constant damage and the mace proc is great to disrupt a healer.

As far as upgrading gear on a Rogue your probably going to get the biggest improvement upgrading your weapon.

Now you guys tell me :D I'm going to be respecing Shadow soon just to have some fun in BG's and maybe arena. Now to go mace hunting.

I worked with Schmeea a bit yesterday duelling her and giving her pointers and strats to beat me and it was working well. Considering the huge gear difference between the two toons (my priest with 12k health to her 7k and 457 res to her sub 100) she did very well absorbing what needs to be done to control healers at least and every fight she had be below half health.

One fight in particular, she time her kicks to shut down my holy line, she got a string of mace stuns (with only one mace to top it off) and yeah, she pwned me. No, I did not show her any mercy, I fought for every victory I got and if it wasn't for the fact I had 5k more health then she, I'd not have won very many.
