Legacy of Elijah Officer
Does anyone have any requests for PvP tonight at 10pm eastern? If we want to have an earlier session as well, let me know. However, for an earlier session, I will need to have a volunteer to lead that group.

One thing we could try is to refine our Air Spike build a little. I still need to go pick up the PvP recommended weapons. Here is the link to the thread with that discussion. These recommended weapons are to avoid the mistimed spikes caused by increased cast speed caused by my Brimstone Wand and other similar items.

The last time we used this build we seemed to have some difficulty with IWAY/EoE builds. Air magic includes some spells like Blinding Flash and Glimmering Mark that we could use to reduce the effectiveness of the IWAY warrior. We could even take the earth magic skill Eruption just for the 10 seconds of blindness. The priority would then be to kill the EoE Spirit and then their protection monk.

Any other suggestions or thoughts on the build or for tonight?

My elementalist i think is now ready to join in this thing. But I'm not sure I have all the skills necessary. I pretty much bought every air skill available at Drok's, but I haven't gotten to the Ring of Fire missions. Is there anything I'm missing?

E/Me 20

Air Magic Skills acquired:
Air Attunement
Blinding Flash
Chain Lightning
Gale
Lightning Javelin
Lightning Orb
Lightning Strike
Lightning Surge (Elite)
Lightning Touch
Shock

Have one person bring an E/R with a Dust Trap. Blinding Flash is just too darn expensive to blind only one person.

I HAVE THAT!

Anyway, I have sommin Divine Serendipity told me to get for an Air build:

Air attunement
Blinding flash
Lightning strike
Chain lightning

...

I forget most of it, but I have something decent, unlike my water and earth skillz. I like fire best, but its so darn expensive energywise and air is so much cheaper...

OH WELL! I got pyro armor from droks, and pyro I will stay. Unless, of course, Air is needed.

Kinda late notice here, but a guy from God's Chosen just whispered me about doing a little PvP scrimage tonight. Join us!

It figures. The one time I can GvG, I get called off the computer because my family wants to play poker.

At least I won... my dad tried to scare me off by betting more and more but I had two pair and he only had a high card... I can usually tell when he's bluffing

ok we learned a bit more i think this time. We really need to be more cuatous about the 2min respawn thingy becuase they only attacked during the odd minutes so we would have to wait longer. also they always had 3 monks, 2 protective, 1 healer, and we couldt even scratch them so i think they may have a good idea. but useing back door sneaks pwns too

We need to totally rethink how we go about this against real players. We play against Ranger spike teams and get decimated.......they kill at will and we kill no one. We play against Iway and/or edge bombs and we get decimated. I have yet to see us decimated by an air spiker team.

If we can't beat em we need to join em. This is not criticism of our players just our build. We need to rethink build and strategy.

Supposedly when the new update comes out in the next few months it will have an extra character slot. Perhaps we could all plan to use that slot for a PvP character that is maxed out in his specialty.]

I enjoyed the company of you guys last night. I also appreciate God's Chosen for not taunting us. I was not the best company myself because I detest losing. If its close its easy to say "congrats" to the winners, but when we get totally pawned (and I do mean totally)we need to do something (maybe even several things) differently.

My Monk is totally terrible in PvP. I rarely get to even pop off a heal. Lets post suggestions on how we can get better. Losing I can stomach.......getting totally pawned I cannot.

From reading American Judkins link, my Monk should go mainly or totally protect instead of heal. That makes sense. There is some really good tips in his link. The only thing I disagreed with in that advice was taking Infuse Health with a heal monk. This is advised as a counter for Ranger spike. I don't think I would EVER have time to cast it/get it into effect before the spiked person was dead. Infuse Health does a lot of healing but you have to cast it/get it into effect or its no use. Our last time I was trying to cast healing breeze on folks BEFORE they got attacked to see if it would help but it didn't. The spike overrode it.

Aegis should be a must for our PvP monks. When we went into Tombs with 3 monks (2 of them not SoE), one of them told me to get at least 9 seconds of Aegis. The three Monks take turns casting Aegis as each expires. You have almost a continuous blanket over the entire team that blocks 50% of attacks. This is a great place to start on any PvP counter-build. I certainly won't leave home without it anymore when I go PvP.

We can and will get better. Read posts on Guru forums for builds for PvP for your toon. PvE experience does not translate to PvP success. Skills are critical.

I've had it up to here with getting pawned.......its time for the Empire to strike back!

In general there is no BEST way to counter spike groups. In general the best way is to use bonds to reduce damage; it takes 2 protective monks per pvp group. One heal monk is then able to heal the 1/4th damage input (pending both prot monks are running both life bond and barrier on 4 other people).

Okay, experimenting with Monk in team arenas today. I think we won 3 and lost 2 (2 flawless victories), all with just whoever the server put me with. This is a hybrid build I tried. I welcome criticism/suggestions. Here are specifics.......had to start somewhere:

Mo/Me
4 Inspiration
14 Healing
11 Protection
8 Divine Favor

Skills:
Mantra of Concentration (92 seconds I cant be interrupted)
Rez signet
Aegis (9 seconds)
Mark of Protection
Mend Ailment
Healing Touch
Orison of Healing
Heal Other

Problems........knockdown hammer warriors eat me alive in PvP.......can't get enough self-heals to do the job. Also energy management becomes a problem. Only three self- heals......Orison, Touch, and mend ailment........not enough. Just realized as I was writing this that I could sub Healing Breeze for Heal Other at the same energy cost and have another self-heal.

Plusses: no interrupts is GREAT. This is a no-problems build when no one is beating on me.

Another note.....I carried Amity instead of Mark of Protection as an elite on first two runs. Amity is great for keeping warriors from beating on me but has no effect on preventing casters from targetting me. Also after I would freeze them with Amity someone would always end up damaging them and letting them move again. Dont recommend Amity in PvP.

The farming in team arenas is still terrible. I havent gotten a drop in months.

Oh, and I'm so old I get pawned....not pwned (need to buy a vowel?). After all I still say "neato" and things like that. I think sometimes you young folks get your fingers on the wrong home keys when you type........especially Chicken Soup.....lol. WOWZERS.

Went back in team arenas after subbing breeze for heal other. Had no problem staying alive with sword warrior after me. Another problem jumped up though........a Mesmer on other side sucked all my energy away. Had to wait to pop 5 point heals. 10 or 15 point out of the question. We won 2 consecutive (1 flawless) before running into the Mesmer energy suckers.
