He's one of my best friend's in the world and an elder at our church. His daughter who is in her mid 30's committed suicide last night.

I just can't imagine the pain the family is going through right now and i'm getting ready to go over there. Please pray that I can at least say something semi thoughtful and help comfort them. I'm pretty shaken up also.

She has suffered from depression for years and tried suicide once about 5 years ago. She had been showing no signs of any problems recently and it's just a total tragedy.

Thank you all. The situation totally changed about an hour ago though. I was at my friend's house and he got a call from his daughter.... It wasn't her that committed suicide, it was her husband's sister. They both have the same name and when her husband called my friend this morning and said Amanda committed suicide he just assumed the worst because of the history with his daughter. We were all so happy when he got that call but still sad at the same time for his son in law's family. So many mixed emotions going on right now. Thanks all for the prayers, even though the situation was different than at first, I know they were all heard. There is still one family that needs a lot of prayers. The Amanda that died was in her 50's, has a couple grown kids and grandkids, had been in a very bad wreck about 5 years ago and had a hole in her spine and was in chronic pain and addicted to pain killers. They also said she started drinking a couple years ago. Her family has a lot to deal with and I know they can use your prayers also.

aw man..that is good and bad news at the same time. Still sad...but i cant imagine the relief your friend's feel knowing it wasn't their daughter

As one who has stood on the verge myself, my heart goes out to this person and her family. It is so tragic. For myself, there was a healing that came from a focused seeking God. Not everyone gets to that step. The mental and emotional state of one when they do this seems to be one in which they are out of control unlike the "face-saving" suicide of the Japanese culture. I have been around others who were suicidal and recognize there is a definate mental illness and condition that gets to a point of the person has lost control of his actions. From a religious point of view, I do not see it always as a problem of "possession" as much as I see it as "oppression" by demonic forces. However, there comes a definite point of chemicals missing in the brain that allow for the physiological condition leading to depression. Bottom line - my heart deeply aches for this person and her loved ones. Only God can work anything about this situation so that some good does come out of it. May He begin that work and see it through to completion.

In prayer -
