Player Housing?

One way it might work is:

"Ahh just placed the last trophy from that month long raid progression quest. Man it looks nice next to the framed paintings I have from bosses I killed. Oh look there is that sword that once I outgrew that I was able to attach to a mantle and put above my warmly-lit fireplace. I remember the time the guild banded together to get me that sword."

Player housing can give that feeling of accomplishment that goes beyond your current outfit. Instead of all those weapons/armor being tossed aside or stored in bank boxes you can take your favorite ones and place them in your house to show off to others or just for yourself to enjoy as you reminisce.

Of course if one doesn't play the game from any kind of lore or RP perspective one doesn't have to buy a house and be part of the town community. They can just be a hack and slasher and go about their business.

I can't vote on this, because I can't see how Bliz could make this work and make everyone happy. UO used to have an awesome player houseing concept. You designed your own house withing plot sizes, up to 3 stories and a roof. You decorated it with 'finds' or craftables, or layered items together to make it look like something (ie: people created piano's with items found in game) Running around a village you might find a rare spawn of a bowl of fruit for your kitchen. You could even set up a vendor in front of your house to sell stuff you found on your adventures. Just creating the house brought out artistic fun I really miss. I also miss being able to drop things on the ground and watch newbs go crazy seeing if it is something they can use. Unfortunately it created a lot of lag- big draw back. But made guild meeting great! We had a big guild castle and a large meeting room inside. We held events and other stuff from there- made guild activities fun and we all contributed to decorating. We had rooftop waterfalls and gardens, hanging plants, stables, fireplaces and much much more.

I think UO is another great example of a MMORPG that got it right with the housing concept. They had lag from beginning to end tho, I wonder if it really was the housing that did it.

If we can have player housing, then this is what I want:

A small two bedroom wood log cabin on the shore of deep blue mountain lake, in the shadow of majestic snow capped mountains. Of in the distance, you hear the howl of the coyotes that share this rugged terrain. A covered veranda with three months supply of chooped wood nicely stacked and two wooden chairs. A pile of animal skins stacked neatly off to the side. A stone chimney with a column of white smoke whisping from top to let all know that a warm, inviting, softly crackly pine wood fire has been lit and on top of it, a stew slowly bubbles away. The great room, which is really not much bigger then what is needed to store a dinning table with four wooden chairs highlighted with various deer antlers. A couch and a comfly high back chair around the fire place. The whole room would be scantly clade in the dim light thrown about by laterns hung on the wall and a candlebra on the table. Beaver, wolf and similiar small game pelts are strewn on the furniture and a small pile of other blankets neatly folded in the corner, inviting the guests to cuddle into one while they shared stories around the fire. There would be no trophies to proclaim any great deeds of the owners, rather the whole feel of the small cabin would be of humble origin.

By entering the cabin, you would get the sense that the owners are a kind folk, with chiselled faces. Not drooping from old age, rather defined by trail and time. They would sit around the fire imparting great wisdom to all who would listen by telling stories of great adventures from a time long since forgotten. They may well have been hero's of the legends of old but you could not tell that from the surroundings. They would be a couple who survived on a meager earning yet you knew, if you asked, they would give all the blankets they had to keep you warm and all the food in their pantry to keep you fed and ne'er would they ask for anything in return.

If I can not have that, then there is no point in player housing. :P

I don't think you get it GP; the whole point of player housing in an MMO is to make it NOT like your RL surroundings.

Silly Canadians...

Location, location, location...Can I have my house anywhere I wish? Like the sandy beaches along the coast of Tanaris, or perhaps a nice large spread in the plains in the Barrens, or maybe even an adobe place with an Incan touch in the jungles of STV....perhaps I can save up enough money to buy Blackwing Lair and redecorate it?

My reason for wanting player housing is that I like "extra-curricular" things to do in a game, like professions, but both leveling, PvPing, and building up professions sometimes gets old. So when I get on and say, "I don't feel like leveling anything or PvPing...I wanna go move my furniture around, or I wanna display this new item or trophy I got yesterday..." I just think it would be fun... I had it in AC, and I loved it, and I had it in EQ 2, and both rocked... And, what about having a closet where you can hold like 5 sets of armor, and not take up any bank space???

Still not convinced adding additional solo content promotes the muchly needed group support the guild needs. Quite honestly, all the LFG in guild chat is very depressing. I see 8 people on between 45 and 50, two of them looking for groups one for ST and the other Mara and the ohter 6 off doing solo content. I doubt having people holed up in the player housing will allievate this.

I see your point...however, I have never been in a guild, (Narrow Path, Metamorphasis, Redeemed, MSC) where it seemed like anything mattered unless you were 40+...which is realy depressing... I really appreiate the help I recieved from Gohom, Shadowbill, Gnimish, Avester, and anyone else who helped me up to where I am, but it just seems like more people don't really care... it's like dailies are more important than helping someone get there mount, or etc...but, everyone has there own thing so I am not against anyone for not helping...but...

Sometimes dailies are important. I spent 15g in repairs helping people in a lower level dungeon one night, some times you need to farm dailies to get some gold back heh. the past month I have lost 200g just in repairs and thats after selling items I looted/etc. I know this because I havent done dailies and all I have spent money on was repairs, and I havent even been playing much:P But I do try to help whenever I can:)

Here is my final compromise on the player housing issue:

If blizzard is willing to spend all this time on creating instances like Mount Hyjal, BT and Sunwell Plateau for 5% of the player base, the can introduce player housing for the 5% of the player base that is more into RP, only if people are forced to vacuum for an hour of game play to make it happen, and scrub the toilets. :)

dude they make roombas now, no need for housekeeping!
Just ask Icthus, he got one for Xmas!!
