Pets - Stalkers, and Lynxs, and Bears... Oh My!!!

My new goal for Jana (R/Me) is to get a new pet and train it in such a way that I can control they way it evolves.

I've wanted since I started bear hunting for XP in Presearing to charm a bear, but now that I'm far enough that I can I'm getting mixed opinions. A lot of people tell me it's a horrible idea. And others have told me that while the bears attack a little slower, they deal more damage. While this would make sense, it doesn't really mesh with what I've been reading. Also if anyone has any decent bookmarks on this topic, I'd love to see them. I found an article on making a dire pet, and have been basing my planned strategy around that.

So... does the selection of pets make a difference? What pets should I pick? I want something fairly uncommon... but all the good ones are taken!!!

Oh, the drama!

If you want something uncommon, I don't think I've ever seen anyone with a dune lizard for a pet. By the time you get to the desert, your pet is most likely lvl 20 and most ppl don't want to start over with their pet.

I didn't work with my pet very much. It wsa low level and such.

And I thought about the lizard but my wife is throwing a tantrum because she's the only one she knows and she wants it to stay that way.

Thought about a spider. But Halonic has one. lol

Actually I've just not been to the UW yet. Didn't even know you entered it from a place I already had.. or I would have long ago

You cannot enter the UW unless you are ascended. Since you just ascended, you couldn't have gone there before anyways. :p

I want a spider also simply because he poisons every now and then. Currently my W/R has a big lvl 20 warthog named 'Pumba' and my R/Mo has a big lvl 20 stalker named 'Putty Tat'.

I actually have two spiders, an Elder with my Ranger and a Dire with my Monk.

If you want to level a pet up quickly go on a Tombs run with a Barrage/Pet group. Pets are there to provide corpses for the MM so it shouldn't matter what level your pet is. He will level quickly on Tombs runs.

I have a Dire spider with my Warrior and a Dune Lizard with my Monk, Both lvl 20. IMO these are the coolest pets :-)

I just got an Elder Black Widow. But despite common misconception Spiders do NOT poison every now and then, they are equal to all the other pets in every way. The only pet with any additional skill is the bear and its a ferocious strike or soemthing liek that. It deals a little more damage than a standard blow but due to casting time it could hit the target twice in the time it takes to hit it once with its special attack, rendering the bear on equal ground as all pets despite its additional skill.

The poison ability is simply a rumor that developed early on but simply is not true. The Spider has no condition dealing abilities just as the other pets have no advantage over other pets. The spider is just the trophy pet if you will.

The only difference between pets is the type of damage dealt. All pets deal slashing damage with the exception of the lizard and the spider which deal piercing damage.

^^^ Link to guild wiki article on pets, it has all the info you need to evolve your pet into what you desire.

Axe Me No Questions (Dorkelf's warrior) has a dune lizard. He added ranger specifically for IWAY, so he had already completed the game. It was just laziness-the lizards are literally right outside the portal for one of the desert outposts...

Tarabeth has a Stalker, as does Mirawyn when she is a ranger. But Mirawyn may get a tiger...only another kitty could tempt her to part with her kitty. :D
