PC consoles

A couple companies are trying to produce consoles made to play PC games. Right now the Phantom and DISCover are competing to be the first 2 PC consoles for this generation. I have to say... why bother? Let's look at the facts about these hybrids:

1. They are limited like any other console. The whole idea behind them is having generic PC's so game developers don't have to worry about compatibility. But that means you won't be upgrading these! And you'll have to go buy a new one eventually like any other console.

2. They cost just as much as a PC. Alienware's DISCover will run you $1500. For that price, do you want to play PC games on a TV that only supports 800x600 if you are lucky?

3. No mods. That's right, you can play Half-life, but no Counterstrike for you! And given the fact that the PC gaming industry thrives on the modding community, who would really be satisfied with one of these? I don't know a single multiplayer game I've played that I didn't get mods for.
