Pariah screenies

Not entirely UT related, but it's by Digital Extremes. Check out these fresh new screens from the XBox version.

I wasn't really paying attention to this game for a while, but it's not too far away from being completed; I think it's released sometime this spring. Anyone else following it?

hmm, I'd never heard of it before, and now I see all these ads on gamespot for it. It claims to be revolutionary, but I've not seen anything so far to give me that idea.

DE is an excellent developer, so I think Pariah will be worth at least a rental. I'm not too fond of (read: loathe) the XBox controller, but I'd love to toy with a PC demo should they release one.

I think Pariah will fall into the "great first-person shooter released between major FPS titles that doesn't receive the attention it deserves" that already hosts such famous hits as Shadow Warrior, SiN, and Red Faction.

In order for Pariah to recieve that categorization, it would have to have some form of specialized gameplay that sets it apart from most of the industry...so far it looks like another unreal-esque blow-big-fat-super-soldiers-up-with-your-big-fat-unimaginitive-gun type of game.

Hmmmmm...am I the only one who thinks the story is the most interesting part of the game? For me, that's what I'm most intrigued by. I'm also very intrigued by that part in the trailer that seems to show you riding an elevator (or a moving platform) with ships (or robots) flying through a canyon.

As for "gameplay that sets it apart from the industry", I guess we'll just have to wait until it comes out.

I can't find the post anymore, but I think it was Rizz who was saying that Halo 2 was unimaginitive. I rented it over the weekend and I totally have to disagree with him AND the reviewers who keep saying the story sucks and that Bungie didn't try hard enough this time out. Maybe I just haven't played enough FPS games to become jaded and know when certain plot/gameplay devices have been used in other games, but I thought Halo 2's dual storyline (and dual hand guns) was totally fresh. They've also added a slew of new weapons to pick and choose from, some great gaming sequences (riding the warthog through the city tunnels, the tank on the bridge and then infiltrating the Spartan walker was totally cool; I only wish the bomb planting sequence from the first mission was an actual playable sequence and not an interstitial)

I haven't played Half Life 2 yet, but has that game just spoiled it for everybody? HL2 is so glorious in its execution, that everything else doesn't deserve a glance? Typing this "out loud" makes me realize that Tek is probably right, that Pariah might fall through the cracks, regardless of how brilliant or wretched or mediocre it might be.

Pretty much.

Someone was stating that HL2's multiplayer was laggy across the board, but I haven't tried it-- I'm fairly certain I'm getting it for Christmas, though.

HL2DM? It's a little laggy, but understand that it's a freebie, valve said HL2 wouldn't have any multiplayer so it's really meant to appease the whining fans. Besides the reason it's laggy is the insane amount of physics involved.

No it doesn't. The larger objects in the world repell you, thus cutting down on physics usage. Smaller objects are rendered client side, etc.. CS:S isn't about physics (no gravity gun).

More Pariah stuff here. Covers mostly the XBox edition, but the info is still valid for both versions.

Highlights:
- Upgradable weapons (part of the strategy through the game is deciding which weapons you want to upgrade; in multiplayer, you battle other players for limited weapon upgrades, or "energy cores")
- Both versions of the game will come with a level editor (yes, even the Xbox version!!!)
- Interactive enviroments (don't just shoot a barrel and watch it blow up; punch a bullet hole it, kick it down a hill, and then light the gasoline trail on fire)

A little more info here
