Paladins, get ready to rummmmbbbllle!

With the confirmation of the paladin talent tree improvements in 1.9 (details are yet to be revealed) we need to be thinking ahead on what kind of paladin we want to become. As you may know, I have 2 60 paladins for this very reason. I have been playing a paladin for 11 months, and have done every 5/10/15/20/40 instance as a paladin.

Demetri is planning to be a retribution paladin, for he is a pure critadin build. He now has 244 str and 210 agility and fully buffed he can get to 35% crit rate and a 16% dodge rate. With decent attack power, high agility, and a slow wep (crystal spiked maul 3.9 speed) I am able to see seal of command procs above 1300. A high crit rate is important for melee swings and seal of command proc but also other holy damage such as exorcism/holy wrath and hammer of wrath. At the moment, this is probably the most dps a paladin can do. I have chosen to stay away from +crit gear and focus on agility gear so I get both a high crit rate and a decent dodge rate. This is imporant since my stamina and AC (2her) is not too high (kinda like a rogue).

Demetrius will be a healadin or tankadin. He has a good set of int/+healing gear that includes a few epic pieces: Judgment helm and Hand of Edward the Odd and many blue plate healing items. If the pally healing is not attractive Demetrius may be a tankadin as well, via the protect tree for this is my first character and he has quite a bit of +def gear and gear with strength. I must admit I enjoy swinging a weapon on the front lines more than standing back to heal so a pure healer may not be the way to go. Again, we will see what Blizzard gives us pallys in terms of healing or tanking talents. I will say that I feel +healing gear is better then more intellect, so we can have higher impact short term healing rather than more healing over time. I think priests will always have a better mana pool than us and when we need more mana we can use major mana potions.

I plan on seeing how Blizzard changes things and what our guild really needs. I think I see more of a need for tanks than healers at the moment so I will factor this in as well.

Also, keep in mind that enchants and librams (head/leg) can really give your player an extra edge. On Demetri I have an extra 28 agility on my head/leg/hands/feet which is nice and +4 all stats to chest. He has +15 agility on his wep as well so I have boosted his agility by 47 (163 to 210) by making wise choices on enchants. Perhaps this can be a good challenge for you while we are waiting for patch 1.9 ... to plan your enchants/librams and work to get the mats needed. I know that many of us are very familiar with the enchant options and libram options for all classes, and even other classes. Deedlyt has most of the enchants so see him. However, some of the enchants are pricey so make sure you have solid gear that will stay around for awhile. I have 5 or so weapons in the bank with the crusader enchant that I never use any more ... thats 10 orbs and 20 shards .... about 800g worth of mats at AH prices just sitting idle!

I know we have Demetrius/Demetri, Osk, Allanon, Stoneheart, Daeder at 60 and many pallies make their way to the 40s and 50s ... so we will have a good showing of pallys which is nice so we can fill the gaps with healing/tank/dps as needed. Remember that may blue items are better than lightforge for a specialty pally so dont get too focussed on lightforge if you plan to specialize.

We may not get the 1.9 patch until after Thanksgiving but I hope to see the talent preview soon and we can start to dream, and plan! Feel free to msg me in game or in RL (khare4@msn.com) if you have questions or comments, paladins or other chars... and lets have fun and be excellent as we walk in the light, and let our light shine before men (and women)!

As a follow up, Librams used to be a mystery to me. It seems they still are for most players in WoW, based on all the head / leg enchant questions I get as an enchanter. Here is an excellent guide to Librams. I have it printed out and next to my PC at all times.

Great post!

There are also librams at ZG per class and maybe in PVP rewards too I think ...

I am currently going for agility on Demetri and +heal and +mana on Demetrius.
