So it turns out that my new-to-me PC isn't quite as powerful as I had previously thought. It's awesome for older games and it's FANTASTIC for indie games, with the notable exception of the CPU-intensive Natural Selection 2.
I'm considering buying a new mainboard, processor, and video card on Black Friday to build a new gaming rig then use the remaining parts for a media center PC to leave in the living room.
I'm also considering overclocking my Intel E5200 from 2.5GHz on each core to at least 3.0GHz. For those who are more familiar with high-end hardware (read: pretty much anyone else on these forums), would I see significant gains in performance in games like NS2 and Guild Wars 2 if I were able to overclock my processor to a stable 3.0GHz or even 3.2GHz? Is the benefit worth the risk?
I suppose I should note I have (what I think is) a pretty decent aftermarket heatsink and fan, so I should be able to turn up the heat a bit without much trouble.
