Once again trying to convert to Linux...

For like the 100th time I am debating completely converting over to Linux...after playing around in Ubuntu for hours and making sure I can do just about everything I can do in Windows in Linux (other than Sync my iTouch), I think I am close to ready (funny thing though, I just completely upgraded to Windows 7 and was really enjoying it...lol...)... Well, anyways, I would say I sit intermediate (skill level) when it comes to Linux, is there any must have programs or things I need to make the complete switch? ...and, to those of you who have actually seriously used Linux...is the switch worth it? I mean I love Linux and all, but sometimes it is a hassle to do what I need/want to...

I'm running Ubuntu 9.04 on my new laptop and loving it. I've been able to do everything in linux that I ever did in windows, except gaming of course. I keep the default Vista install around for that, but beyond that I haven't had any problems. The only major issues really tend to be driver problems. Be prepared to make use of WINE too, as it comes in very handy.

Oh, and if you have a decent video card you get to do things like running Compiz with the 3D cube: http://www.screencast.com/t/FLLX0iZ1cZ (That would be my desktop. :D)

Yeah, I do all the fun 3d stuff, and I game...just get your driver and use Wine...you can play most games in Wine... The only thing I still cannot do is sync my iPod...

You've had better luck than I have with the games then. xP The only game I could get working was TF2, and the performance was less than stellar. Anyway, I've had a pretty good experience so far.

most valve games should work with WINE. Im pretty sure EQ2 and WoW work with wine. Now that your switching, have fun with the command line. You will learn it pretty quickly. As for any must have apps, I would say: WINE, VirtualBox (free emulator if you ever need windows), perhaps G-Fire (If your into x-fire[it's the same thing]). And that's probably all, they pretty much pack in everything in ubuntu that you would need to make a full switch. Also there are some apps that let you add and remove songs from your ipod.

Alright, then I suggest installing VirtualBox. And then (If you have one) install your copy of windows. After that, do all the upgrading and what not and install itunes. Then you will be able to manage your music without booting into windows fully. It'll be running in a vm.

Right now I am just dual booting Ubuntu 64 and Win7 64...it works for me right now...so I am going to stick with it...but thank you for your suggestions...
