OMWord!!! New internet speed at new home!

In my area, DSL and Cable are very equal...DSL can download at 12Mbps and stay there, because DSL doesn't fluctuate like cable... Cable 12Mbps then 6 then 2 then 20 then 10 then 15 then 0.000001 then 5...lol...

What is scary is I do not live around a major city or a interesting area at all...and DSL is faster here than amost anywhere else and we are soon getting Fiber Optic lines...and to believe this is all happening in Indiana...

If you aren't in an apartment then you dont need it. You probably want to avoid those sites as they usually get you lots of spam.
dsl reports won't give you spam...they have never done it and so far never will. I use them for dsl/broadband qualifying whenever i can.

Here's a question, if the initial download burst is so high, couldn't you develop a program that starts the download with the high burst, and then stop it, then restart it with another high burst, and then stop it? And so on.

wget + bash ftw

while [ 1 -gt 0 ]; do wget -r blah.com/somefile &; sleep 20; killall wget; done

Syntax errors aside, I used to do stuff like that when my old college tried to snuff certain file extensions. They went so far as to target .tar*, which really sucks when you need to download source files to update software.

For the most part the download on my line will be a high initial then slow down a tad and stay steady for the rest of the time. Of course that is highly dependent on the server.

Hey we must be behind LOL We just updated to 5meg Oh well maybe one day... "dreaming" then I snap back to reality :)

America is lagging behind in internet speeds sadly. All the cooperations are dragging down the infrastructure with their monopolistic practices. Since they don't have any competition they only advance when it benefits them.

I read in Tokyo the average internet speed is 50Mbps...I am running at an insanely high 12Mbps (Suppose to anyway...I am getting about 20...)...

I have had problems with that, and I had to end up calling them and they told me what to put in to get it to work...because they are all different...
