:D Since when did atheisiam become a religion here? How is that a christian who falls back into the way of the world, and has no faith in God or belief in God able to come here and try to distract and diswade us with his speculations? Amazing! The word of God speaks very clear about this kind of behavior. Look at God's truth in 1Timothy 1:3-11. What is the purpose for letting atheists come here and try to persuade us christians to ingage in talks by promoting controversies rather than the divine training that is in faith? We as christians should not allow them to keep us occupied by there earthly speculations of what they think, and in so doing keeping us from really seeking what the word of God says. They want to show us earthly things, but they do not know what they are talking about or what they so confidently assert. But they believe they do. The Word of God says that those that bring up controversies such as the atheist should be turned away from and turned over to Satan. Look at 1 Timothy 1:19-20 says-"holding faith in a good conscience. By rejecting conscience, certain persons have made shipwreck of their faith, among them Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have handed over to Satan to be taught not to blaspheme." And in the same way we as Christians should turn them over to Satan so that may come to believe in God. I am not saying that we should not pray for them here. What I am saying is that as christians we should not entertain there speculations and not even comment on anything they may bring up here. God's word tells us about this. Well...

First of all, these forums are not a church. It would be wholly inaproppriate to have people like this coming in and saying this kind of stuff in church, but this is a forum, open to anyone willing to abide by the terms of service.

Secondly, this forum isn't essentially for the edification of us believers here, it is a place to to discuss the many intricacies of christianity and how they relate to other beliefs.

Thirdly, if you are strong in your belief in God there is nothing to worry about in terms of being led astray or what have you. People like Dark Virtue and Eon ask hard questions, and to think about them helps you know your faith more. I can honesly say that I feel I am a stronger christian for frequenting these forums, and that has a lot to do with the way the atheists challange our beleifs. Faith grows in the face of adversity.

Fourth, the atheists here are in need of God as much as anyone else. Should we shun them just because they don't beleive as we do? What kind of witness would that be? Besides, I think they secretly want us to effectivly persuade them to beleive in God.

Fifth, think about how much less activity there would be on these forums without someone to present a counter point.

Sixth, in relation to the verses you cited the atheists make no claim to be believers, and that I think disqualifies them for the unpleasent title of flalse prophets. It should also be noted that the (accoding to the notes in my bible) the "handing over to Satan" refers to expulsion from the church. As previously mentioned, this is not a church. In addition, that punishment (also according to the notes) was not intended as punishment, but was more in the hopes that it would correct those being punished and lead to reconciliation.

Well I think that's all. In summary, I disagree, the atheists should be allowed to discuss relevant to them in the hopes that we will be able to present a good witness for Christ.
 
^ a waste of time are they? maybe they are interested in our religion and this is an opportunity to be a friend to them. More often then not the debate is heated, but God has really worked on my heart as to how I communicate.
You must understand this is a religious discussion forum. 1Peter3:15 "...Always be ready to give a logical defense to anyone who asks you to account for the hope that is in you, but do it courteously and respectfully."

Do you claim the gift of bieng a teacher? because you just butchered this verse in meaning and context. I advise to you to read James 3:1. 1Timothy 1:3-11 is pertaining to the people who call themselves christians, and teach falsely. If there are people in the church that will not listen to Christ, or teach other christians falsely from the "authority of Christ" we are to cut them off. I see no athiest claiming to be a Christian, or any God given authority.(watch it DV, one notion of God give authority and I"m cutting you out ;) )

Listen, I know your intentions are good, but as one trying to immitate Christ(and I have a long ways to go :( ) I will not alienate myself from unbelievers in any aspect of my life. I have only seen them come into this forum with questions. I will admit that Bible verses are misquoted, and I do my best to quickly correct the misinterpretation. Some threads hold no value and would lead me to agree with you, but what about the few that do hold value? I do believe you are a genuine person, and if God is telling you this isn't the place for you I advise you to listen.

Brother Lester Roloff spent his life working with wayward ones, his work continues today. He said, "Don't give up on them until they have been dead for three days!" Oftentimes churches do not give messages of hope, we want to be quick to judge and cast others into hell! We try to devour our own brothers and sisters in Christ...they must taste sweeter! :) Woe be unto us! Where is the fruit of God as explained in Galatians 5 in that? Where is the exhortation and encouragement?

I feel that I grow in these forums. I will not take the chance of embarrassing anyone, and not that I don't enjoy every post, but I know there are a few that post that are 100% certain to help me grow! When I first started reading in the forums, a full year before I ever joined, it was a member who encouraged me to come here initially, I only read posts by Christians...lol it was a one sided argument, granted, but they had things to say about the LORD and I needed to learn and grow! They may have seemingly been debating with atheist, but I was reading as a guest without ever saying a word and growing thereby!

I finally posted when I did read from a non-Christian and it was something that could be really simply refuted straight from Scripture!

Why do I come here?

1. To see others saved.

2. To share Scripture. The Bible says that the Word of God will not come back void:

So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it. Isaiah 55:11

3. To grow due to the post by Godly Men and Women and their teaching of Scripture.

4. To pray and encourage others. In addition, I get this blessing in return!
 
I don't really feel the need to add much else. Shadetaker and the other posts above have pretty much already said everything that I feel. When I first came here I too had my doubts. But I am in the same boat as Master Plan. These forums have really challenged me about how I communicate with others. As angry and worked up as I get sometime at DV and some of the other's views, I am forced to remember that God never wanted us to alienate anyone. We are not better than those here who are not believers, and ultimately our heart's wish is to have them in heaven by our side.

I've said this many times, but not lately, so pay attention...

I realize that I am nothing more than a guest in this house. If my company is no longer wanted here, all it takes is ONE request from a mod, any mod here and I am gone. So if someone has a SERIOUS problem with me, PM a mod.

We christians walk by faith and not by sight but the atheist walks by sight and not by faith. A great deal of differance I would say. They claim there is no God and try to convince us through there way of thinking that God does not exist. Go ahead if you feel inclined to debate with them but it always comes down to the same thing with them, namely "been there, done that" and they know it all and still there is no God. I will not debate with them in any matter that they bring into this so called "Religious Forum". For life is more than a debate that God does not exist. I live by faith not by sight and I will continue proclaming what the Word of God says as the Spirit of God leads me. Bless you all! If you feel like you can't debate here then just don't, it's really that simple. It saddens me that by these posts you are actually only justifying the stereotype of the higher than thou Christian. Proclaiming the Word of God does nothing if it falls on deaf ears. While those of different views that frequent here may disagree 99% of the time, I have no doubts that DV (specifically) reads every single post I write and actually thinks about it rather than just immediately trying to find a way shoot it down. This is a give and take religious discussion forum.
 
Jeshurun, you are the PERFECT example of bigotry evident in Christianity.

You are quick to claim your way is the RIGHT way and expect all nonChristians to bend over backwards and except your claims without question, yet you are totally unwilling to understand anyone else's views.

You have painted a broad stroke against atheists and are blinded by the simple truth. That would be like me believing that all Christians can be represented by the Spanish Iinquisitors or by Branch Davidians.

While I feel it necessary to defend my belief (or lack thereof), I won't because it would be a waste of time, falling on your deaf, bigoted ears.
