I perhaps gave the wrong impression with my comments. It is not just Ursen that feels that way, but all of Clan Erse. We had a special meeting where all members of the clan were called in from the field and we discussed the issue, even Biscuit and Gravy returned from Istan and his training duties to attend. There were some interesting comments about the White Mantle, Slow and Shakey almost went too far when we heard him mumble, "The only good White Mantle is minion fodder". Although the most outspoken, to no ones surprise, was Ursina who has fought the White Mantle to the ends of the earth. It is an experience that all have heard of, and the whole of the clan benefits from. No I will keep the spoilers out, but suffice to say the actions of the White Mantel are suspect at best, and treacherous at the worst. Even the newer members have had at least one run in with the White Mantle in Kryta. Poor Biscuit and Gravy even though he has been assigned to duty in Istan since being the first to attain Survivor rank, even he has taken a trip to Kryta to round out his education and experience and there tangled with the White Mantle. Schizoid Lady is almost as vocal in her hatred of White Mantle as Slow and Shakey is, but so are all clan members from Ascalon. They were hoping so much for a peaceful life when they reached Kryta, then ran into the White Mantle. Good grief even Papercut Master, our resident Legendary Survivor, says he would never hire out as an assassin for the White Mantle, even if he was a true mo zing, and that their actions make the factions and fighting in Cantha seem a more desirable place to be. All those who have reached Amnoon, or Augry rock seem to hold a special hatred for the White Mantle, even May Ursinasdotter, who lives so much in the shadow of her mother, was quick to voice her distaste and dislike of the White Mantle, I think mostly because she has gotten as far as Drokner's Forge. Absolutely no one in the clan offered even the slightest show of sympathy for the White Mantle. Now that does not mean they think the Shining Blade is perfect and one hundred percent above board. It's just that if the Ascalonians among them are going to be caught in the Krytan Civil War, there prefer to choose that side which offers the most freedom in the long run. Real Home Cooking was the one who pointed out the obvious that all had missed, "When we began to speak with the Shining Blade it was from that point on that in the eyes of the White Mantle we became forever tainted, and under no circumstances would they ever trust us again." she said. "From that point on we, as a clan, had effectively cast our lot with the Shining Blade, for good or for ill of the clan, we are now committed forever as friends of the Shining Blade."

I have made my decision. If Salma is of the line of King Doric, and the great (x how ever many) grandmother of Queen Jennah, I will support the Shinning Blade. Though I've never liked the idea of returning the Claw of the Khan-Ur to the Charr, but its a different world then, so things may have changed enough by then that even a citizen of Ascalon can live in peace with the Charr... though if the time ever comes that Ascalon can be reclaimed as a human territory (lets hope an expansion in GW2) I'll be on he front lines.
But for now...

#Dismantle!

okay. so I am very confisled. could someone pm me or reply to this explaining what is going on here? I have been away from GW for a long time and am trying to get back into the swing of things.

There's new content on the way, and the group here is deciding which faction they would sign with if it comes down to that. :p

Well with the new developments over the past few days, it looks like we don't get to pick sides after all. The players are all on the Shining Blade side and the Mantle are evil.

I think this quote posted over at guru says it best:

Lets see...

You killed Justiciar Hablion.
You helped the shining blade gain a stronghold in the maguuma and killed the demagoge.
You stole the septer of Orr to give it to the Lich.
You freed the captured Shining Blade members, including their leader Evennia in the Southern Shiverpeaks.
You killed some Mursaat.
You freed another SB spy.
You killed Markis.
You killed Confessor Dorian.
You killed the Inner Circle/3 remaining founding members.
You stormed the Mursaat stronghold, killing a great many of them, including some of their leaders.
You freed the titans, who in turn killed off most of the remaining Mursaat.+
Last but not least you hurt/injured Lazarus the Dire, one of the few remaining survivors.

And now you wanna ally with them?

Yeah, right, ever wondered exactly what that Eggnog was Spiked with?

I saw that post too and it made me laugh. It makes sense tho, from a story stand-point.

In GW2 Salma's descendant is on the throne in Kryta which means the White Mantle has to be overthrown eventually, whether in the last days of GW1 or before the beginning of GW2. But that Anet first led us on to believe there would be side choosing kind of rubs me the wrong way, but then again, in hindsight it was kinda obvious.

And while I knew we were going to be overwhelmingly Shining Blade, I'm glad there are some prominent members dissenting. It always makes things fun :)
