New Guild Wars Miniature Introduced 24 July 2007
If you love the Guild Wars miniatures and dream of adding to your family of diminutive companions, you'll want to know about the newest miniature: the Grawl. We'll be offering keys that allow you to acquire this little guy in July and August at local fan shows such as Comic-Con, Gen Con, and PAX. Stop by the NCsoft or ArenaNet booth at any of the shows to see if you can score a key. Quantities are limited and when they're gone, they're gone. One per account, please. Now, don't worry—if you can't make the shows, we'll be offering a chance for you to get a key later on. And European players will soon get information about upcoming local promotions that will allow you to acquire the cute little creature, as well!

No Dragon*Con? Again? It's the second largest "multigenre" con in North America!

Serious bad judgment on the part of marketing...

Dragon Con (also Dragon*Con) is North America's second largest multigenre convention, held annually in Atlanta, Georgia.

Those are what we call "facts." Over 25,000 attendees, every year. Don't know if it's the best con because there's tons I haven't been to, but definitely HUGE.

And I just looked at the DCon website... Guests this year include

Nichelle Nichols
Robert Aspirin
Brent Spiner

Woohoo! Don't know if I'll go SEE any of them, but still cool!

Edited to add: AND Gates McFadden, AND Jonathan Frakes!

seriously, who are they? The voices of various video game protagonists?

Well, I don't know who the first two are, but Brent Spiner was Data, Gates McFadden was Dr. Crusher, and Jonathan Frakes was Riker on Star Trek TNG.

Nichelle Nichols: Lieutenant Uhura

Robert Aspirin writes the MYTH books, which Kel and I both love. :) If he's speaking on Saturday or Sunday, I'll almost certainly go. Unless the line is like the one for Myth Busters last year...

On a related note:

Who else thinks C$ is in denial about his geek side?

Wil Wheaton (Ensign Crusher) is the keynote speaker for PAX this year... I guess that's just exciting for Atown. He's pretty cool tho.

Who's Uhura, and what are the myth books?

BLASPHEMY!

How can you NOT know who Uhura is? She was groundbreaking, as an actress and a character. It was unheard of at the time for a black woman to have a prominent, serious role like hers. (Same goes for Chekov and Sulu, actually.) She actually wanted to quit at one point because the role wasn't more serious, but Martin Luther King, Jr. called her and asked her to stay on.

I actually intend to do a Uhura-style Trek costume at some point. Yes, the skirt will be longer...

I was born after the original series. But Uhura was in the movies right up 'til Star Trek VI...and those WERE in my lifetime. In fact, I saw all of them in the theater, except Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

But my parents were both Trek fans, so I was raised on the reruns. :)
