So what do you think of the new consoles?

Sony Playstation 3

Pretty much everything about the Xbox 360 was revealed with the exception on backwards compatibility specifics (Limited? No Fuzion Frenzy?) and price.

Sony showed a bunch of pre-rendered videos and Nintendo talked about backwards compatibility with everything they've made for a platform that stays plugged into an outlet.

Anybody stoked for any of the new systems?

PS3 IS GONNA FREAKING ROCK!!!!! ONLY THE L337 FR34KING @W3S0M3 G@M3RS WILL USE IT!!!! but in my opinion 360>revolution>ps3

On the 360 bandwagon huh? Gears of War and Oblivion look really good, and the "behind the scenes" impressions of Perfect Dark Zero are pretty positive. It's cool to see the XBox get its own "Wave Birds" too.

Still no info on Halo 3 though, and it's only a year away if it's coming out to combat the launch of the PS3.

No offense; The X-Box 360 looks like a VCR Player; the Nintendo-R looks like a DVD Player; the Playstation 3 is oval/shinny for a console system...

backwards compatibility?

- able to play old compatible games?
- able to use old compatible hardware/software?
- able to be to compatible with what?

ONLY THE L337 FR34KING @W3S0M3 G@M3RS WILL USE IT!!!!

So true...what a shame/pain...

i know for a fact im getting 360 and revolution. The best looking IMO is the revolution, its small, its simple, and very sleek.

and by backwards compatable he means the console will have the ability to play games from the companies previous consoles.

TES IV: Oblivion does look awesome but I'll be getting on the PC first.

As of now, i think Xbox360 on its way to the top.. microsoft is slowlys screwing ppl over.. rumours say they bought square, and releasing halo3 on day ps3 is coming out.

rofl.

My vote is for the PS3, except that controler looks uncomfortable to use. I wonder if u throw it it would come back like a boomerang. :)
The xbox is cool but y would u need a remote feature to turn off the system. Plus I'm still upset that San Andreas is taking so long to come out on XBox.
Nintendo is the true gamers system but they really need to think about putting out some more mature games for a older audience. Even though Mario Cart is one of my favorite games. They seem to be more targeted to kids.
Side topic, anyone see the new mini gameboy, I want to know whats the point, can the screen go any smaller.

Okay my opinion on the new consoles:

The PS3 looks like Sony has gotten so completely wrapped-up in style that they forgot it also needs to be useable. After seeing pictures of the controller I will not be suprised if a nightmare about how uncomfortable it is meets me in my dreams tonight, and I wake up in a cold sweat with mysterious blisters on my hands.

XBox 360 looks interesting and the game demos were impressive graphically, however I do not have the monetary resources to build up a new game library from scratch; and to be honest, the games for the current XBox never really impressed me that much gameplay-wise.

Nintendo Revolution is the one I am currently putting my stakes on. The Big N has always had a knack for making games that are truly fun, and that's what this is all about. Also the massive compatibility with all GC titles keeps me from having to dump all my old games out and start over. I would like to see the controllers button-layout though.

I'm not happy about the wireless controllers. It may seem smart until you start considering the annoyances associated with batteries.

The ps3 controller is still in concept, they're probobly going to change it after so many people at the expo thought it was uncomfortable.

The Xbox 360 wireless controllers will feature a rechargable battery pack.

As for the PS3 "boomorangs controllers", Fargo from Gamespy pointed out that when gamers get frustrated, they can throw the wireless PS3 controllers and they'll "boomorang" right back into their hands.

Guess that means all my saved games on the PS2 memory card will be useless on the PS3... I have to beat and get the unlockables all over again!

Guess that makes me old school for keeping my PS2 over the PS3(Unless a new Resident Evil game comes out). :D

Carry on, noble brave youngesters to the new consoles of the new year! LOL

PS3>*

However they must keep with the Dual Shock design because it's about the most comfortable thing I've ever used.

Yup, same here on all points. Not just GameCube games, my man, any Nintendo console game made. :)

However, the fact that it can play n64 games must mean that the 'buttons' will be repositionable (ex. Z, left control pad, C-pad)...which might hint at what the controller will be like. They said the control scheme for the console will be neat, too.

I agree. PS3 looks like the winning console here, and the dual shock is probably more comfortable than the new boomerang controller (but I guess I'd have to hold it first). Anyway, I think I might just buy a PS3, UT2007, and plug in my keyboard and mouse to it's many ports on the back. I'd probably be cheaper and more exciting than upgrading my computer :).
