Just got a D-link hub (DI 604), I've connected it actually from the manual. On 'My Network Places', It shows the router option, I click on it and it requires a Username and Password. I've phoned Shaw Cable, Futureshop and checked the D-link site, www.d-link.com. When I phoned those places, they said they didn't know, sooo...I checked the d-link site, it says I should put 'Admin' as the Username and '' (Blank) as the Password. Still wont work!

Need your help!!!

Btw, I'm trying to connected it to 2 Computers, Mines a Windows ME, the other is Windows XP. Its about 30 feet away from each computers. And Im using a Cable modem. Wired, not Wireless.

Hmm I am not much of a networking guy nor have I ever done this. All I can say is I know windows XP and other versions of windows somtimes have problems with networking with eachother I think. Maby this could be the problem? I doubt this helps but I had to try.

when doing router support I usually configure it through a browser http://192.168.1.1 is the url usually and the login for linksys routers is blank username and admin as the password I believe or it's admin with blank password.

I think the default is usually 192.168.0.1.

Try the username/password suggestions from CCGR. Also try 'Admin' and '1234' for the password (no quotes).

The other question is, did you buy it used? The previous owner may have changed the password. If that's the case, you will either need to ask for the password or reset the router to its factory defaults.

Hey Corp, when I configured mine (very similiar setup to yours) it took quite a bit of playing with it to get it working. Also, if any changes you make don't work right away, give each attempt a few minutes... takes a while to propagate out sometimes to the network.

I used the method CCGR suggested, using a browser to go directly into my router.

Basically I setup mine, it wasn't working so after about an hour I got up and went to eat. When I came back, it was working. Haven't touched it since ;)

Thats the thing...

When the router is connected with the Cable, it doesnt detected it. SO, I cant get to the brower typing ://192.168.0.1 when IE will NOT work.

The cable only works when I DONT use the router.

But I need to use the router for the 2 computers here, unless have 2 cable modems on each cpu would work...???

"Cannot open Page from IE" or something like that.

Trying all the available username's and password's....now.

what is your IP address corp? I've noticed many companies issue modem/routers these days. If your IP address is 192.x.x.x another router will not work

so your ip address with out the router is 192.x.x.x? if so then you don't need one.

I'm more familiar with linksys, those are what we use at Baxter. I bought a Dlink router yesterday and the sucker wigged out have to return it..the Dlink offers a lot but seems glitchy so far....

ccgr, my linksys 802.11g router/access point doesn't let me login with admin/(blank), or (blank)/admin, or admin/1234, or admin/admin, or as (blank)/(blank).  any ideas?  I can get to it through my browser, but its not letting me in.  and my dad says he didn't set a pw.

ouchies sounds like you ahve to reset it to hardware defaults to wipe it away and start over. That's usually done by holding down the reset button for a while and unplugging it..check the manual for the exact process

Hmm...

If you bought a NETWORK HUB, then you cannot use it as a ROUTER
HUB and ROUTER are two different things. Usually what we use is a dummy hub (which most of the proffessionals call it) since it cannot allow connection more then 1 to 1 direct computers (so while they are sendin files, other comps can't get anything) U can never use the hubs to share connections UNLESS you order another IP ADRESS from your cable company. If you do not want to do it that way, you need a ROUTER. Keep in mind that Router is not a Hub. Router takes in one interent connection, and then it seperates it in to different IP adresses such as 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 (2 most common one, Hands down) So that different comps may go on at the sametime.

Router's problem is that it usually has a Hardware Firewall, which you cannot virtually remove. This can cause a lot of annoyance while ur doin an on-line Gamez. If your device is A HUB What you can do is purchase another LAN Card (alias Ethernet Card) and with help of WinXp and Win2k, you can make your COMPUTER a ROUTER, and then you can use a Software Firewall and control the network. Thats what i did, and all you need is a hub, and an extra lan card. To do so, Windows Xp's Network wizard comes handy. However, in Win2k, u'l need to go through several steps. I do not think Win 98 or below allows it, but I've heard taht Windows NT has a way of doing so.

Wake up! don't fall asleep! theres more forums to look at
