Alright, heres one for all of you IT people:

Yesterday I installed and ran a program called Advanced System Optimizer 2.01.4. This program has many features, and of them is one called "Registry defragger". Well, after I run that and reboot I can no longer load windows. It gives me a blue scren of death and says that it cannot find the system startup part of the registry.

Well good, so not only did a highly rated program (5-5 by CNET) completly trash me over (and about 75 other poeple who had the same thing happen to them. CLICK ), but now i'm left with no options. I can't even start Windows XP in safe mode because if I hit F8 during startup, it gives me a completly blank screen.
Best part of all is that the ONLY thing that actually responds to any commands is the recovery console in Windows. Heres what I tried along with exactally what the computer responds with:

C:\>chkdsk

This volume appears to contain one or more unrecoverable problems

C:\>FORMAT C:
(which is my only hardrive)

You cannot format removable media.

Good thing that its not even a media drive, eh?
So im completly locked out of my station with no options but the recovery console, with no apparent way to format my hardrive. Are there any additional commands I need to try? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

**EDIT**

I looked up the specific error numbers that it gives me and this is what I found.

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=171003&sd=RMVP
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=315335&sd=RMVP

However I know that RAM is not the problem because I have had RAm problems in the past and it would at least let me boot Windows before it crashes. I also am convinced its not RAM given I had ZERO problems with my entire system from the time I got it.
However, is it possible for a full system shutoff to effect hardware?

Para,

I notice one of the options in this program is a memory optimizer (or based upon their website) along with the other things. A few things you might try if you have not already, is unplug the pc from any power source. If you have a battery on your mobo, remove it for 1-2 minutes to reset the settings. Put the battery back in, plug it in, and try to boot up and F8 to safe mode. This should clear out all your ram and your boot settings that it would have changed. I am no expert, but this is a start, and if it tried to optimize your memory incorrectly, I could see how it could become a ram problem.

Someone else may be able to give you better advise if that doesn't work.

Also, company's website is http://www.systweak.com/asov2/

You can submit help requests to an email there. I searched the site and did not find any helpful info for you problem.

well if you had an xp disc you should be able to format straight from the setup instead of attempting to repair just skip it and install a fresh copy
