Okay NO WOW!!!! I have played it and it is just too addicting something about it is different than other MMO's I have played and they make it very addicting. Anyways, here are the options I was thinking of: (I am a fantasy swords and orcs type not space)

LOTR Online
Everquest II
Vanquard
Any others anyone can suggest that might be good? I only want one though

(YES I play GW too so that one is already under my belt. :)

LoTRO is a sweet game, until you hit max level. Then you see how ridiculously small the world is and how little there is to do compared to other MMOs. I loved my grind to max lvl, nonetheless. THe graphics are totally unbelievable on a nice system and the game play is fun. PvP has a twist that seems to work for the most part. All in all a great game, just doesn't last long.

I see you play GW...Guild Wars is a fantastic game that is kinda MMOish but really a different game altogether. PvP is the some of the best there is and the graphics are awesome. No monthly fee is a huge plus. I still play it a lot, but I need something deeper to keep my interest. I have the desire to level an epic character.

So I am currently playing EQ2 and cannot give higher praise to a game. Everything is so well done and thought out. Crafting is SO IMPORTANT and so wonderfully deep. Its a mini game in itself. A huge amount of classes/races brings a lot to the table. Excellent UI and very newbie friendly. They are releasing an xpac this November that will include the base game plus every xpac up to current, so you might want to wait till Nov to purchase it. In the mean time download the trial and take a bunch of characters to lvl 10 like I did. I play on one of the few PvP servers and it is beyond intense. Its PvP all the time. All real world, no instanced PvP. When you are outside the walls of a city you are prey (but only to a enemy thats a few lvls above or below you). It makes things quite exciting.

Vanguard still has a grip of issues/problems. I would stay away for the time being. I hear constant complaints from anyone who plays/has played it.

Anyways there is some real short reviews. PM me if you want more details on any of the above, Ill gladly answer your questions.

Vanguard HAD the potential to be the greatest game ever, until sony got involved and fired half of the development team to get their dirty hands on it before it got big, and now it is falling to pieces... Seriously! I beta tested it and it was awesome, then when it was released, it was like "what the heck is this game???", and come to find out weeks before release sony took it over, and it is like a crappy version of EQ 2...

I played EQ 2 for a while, I loved it, but couldn't get any friends to play because of complexity and could never find anyone online to help me (this was about 6 months ago)...

I agree with you, WoW is an addicting game, it is also a very oversimplified game which attracts just about everyone... I hate simple games, and no personality (WoW)... Everyone is like everyone else in that game and it sucks...(even though it is my current MMO)... I only play because all of my friends do, and I got my wife to play...hehe...

I dislike GWs because I am not a crazy PvP fan...I like PvP, but I like character development over months better...

LotRO, I completely agree with ewoksrule on every point...short game...

Final Fantasy 11 is great, but it is very hard, very time consuming, and no one plays...but I would rate it the highest above all MMOs...for more info on FFXI ask that question later...lots to write...

Hmm...I think that is about it on the best MMOs, I could keep going but we would get out of the "best" MMOs...I review a new MMO about every week...lol...but so far I am sticking with the simple WoW...

Heh, I played Everquest for a little bit. Definitely an addicting game... something you could base your entire life around. I think I did get to the point of addiction, as when I was at school I was like "Ooh, I can't wait for EQ tonight!" But then it hit me one day that all my work would never amount to anything, so I dropped it like it was hot.

I understand TJs feeling about the work not amounting to anything, but I cannot help but play a MMO...I always have for the last 8 years... I would like to point out that I am also looking for a new/other MMO to play that is better than WoW (not hard to be), but not too time consuming, and that I can get my wife (non-gamer), and brother to play... You probably see that I should have the info I need, but I would like to see what others think...

I am actually looking back into EQ 2 right now...(but there is maintenance on the website)...and I was wondering if I actually did find EQ 2 to be the best, and I go back to it, is there an active Christian guild out there?

Wow...I didn't even know that was a MMO...but by the looks of it, it looks more action/adventure than RPG...

It's not an MMO as far as I can tell. There is nothing persistent. Its a very Diabloesque hack and slash with random generated levels and loot. There is a multi player component but hardly massive.

Regardless, it looks awesome!

Xion, if you want any company on a EQ2 PvP server, I play on Venekor and love to help others. Its a different approach in character leveling on a PvP server which I can explain if you are interested. I am in a family friendly guild but it is not Christian based.

I am trying to get free trial going with a different account (I already have an EQ2 account), but half of there sites are down and have been since yesterday, a lot of people complaining on the forums, but no answer...but I am still interested...I just cannot even log in to reactivate my account either...

I retract the last post...everything is now back up and in working order...

Starting "Play the Fae" trial now...

ur blind man, its gonna be playable 1 player and MMO based and work similar to guild wars with personal instances

Guild Wars is not really a MMO tho.. Unless you call a max of 8ppl per instance Massive.... Ok the battle grounds do go up to 32ppl but still..thats not Massive.

I'm not saying thats bad... I LOVE GW and have every xpac. Hellgate looks sweet as well. I just don't think they fit into mainline MMO genre.

well I just found this interview with a dev where he said
"I think that just as Diablo and Diablo II started this religious argument over whether they're RPGs or not, I think that Hellgate will spark that same debate over whether it's an MMO or not," commented Roper, who added that the game has been designed as an MMO from day one.

and this

In a somewhat surprising announcement, Shacknews are reporting that the Diablo-styled Hellgate: London will now feature heavy MMO elements. The entire multiplayer side of the game will be subscription based, with guilds, social system and instanced raid content.

Drawing similarities to ArenaNet's Guild Wars, the Hellgate MMO is heavily instanced. Group and solo PvE is the game's main focus; PvP will exist in a small scale form, but is not a major element of the initial launch. It will also feature a Hardcore mode similar to that found in Blizzard's Diablo II, a game on which many members of the Hellgate team worked. Hellgate's MMO will contain all of the missions and story from the single-player aspect of the game, as well as exclusive gameplay modes and content. Like the single-player game, the MMO will be comprised of dynamically generated areas and items. Further content will be continually added over time by a dedicated Flagship team.

so I guess I didn't look hard enough.

I don't think you are understanding what I am saying. Yes GW calls itself a MMO and Yes Hellgate calls its self an MMO but for most gamers out there Massive Multiplayer = 100s and 1000s of ppl playing and able to interact at the same time. 8ppl in an instance is NOT massive in my opinion.

Regardless of what the developers call it or try to market it as. GW is barely a MMO.

You posted it your self. GW takes elements from MMOs

GW is an online RPG that blends elements from Diablo-style online multiplayer, while integrating some MMO elements. The cities and certain dungeon entrances are basically hubs, but once you exit those areas for the wide expanses of desert, rolling hills, and snowy mountains, you'll be flying solo, most of the time or with a max of 8ppl

This has been ongoing debate since the release of GW.
