My system hangs on multiple tabs in Firefox

My system ( CPU 2.40 GHz & 512 MB of RAM ) hangs as I open more than 50 tabs in Mozilla Firefox. I want to open approx 500 tabs for off-page SEO work ( Multiple sites ) at a time in Firefox browser …..................... Should I increase its memory or CPU or both or any other idea to improve the PC performance?

50 tabs? you will need at least 3 gigs of ram as that many tabs is going to chew up a huge amount of memory. Also your cpu is going to be hammered. If you REALLY want better performance it's time for a quad core cpu, 4 gigs of ram, and a 64 bit windows operating system. I would then use google's chrome for this work as it will spread the load across all 4 cpu cores..firefox will not.

don't know if i would put the money into a quad core since most applications still use only one core. but more memory will help. you might also want to upgrade firefox to 3.5. it is looking pretty good on memory usage, but still don't think you will hit the 50 tab mark on your current configuration.

also if you are a dire firefox fan there is hope coming for multi-core usage.

quad core wil help even if you run 4 single threaded aps..one per core..however google chrome is most assuredly fully smp aware..i test this regularly on my system and others. Many GAMES don't benefit form multiple cores..but too is changing. Source is at least partially smp aware and other game engines are quickly following.
