My Challange to Guild Members

I challange all guild members to take whatever Fellowship in the guild means to them, and live it out in the guild at least once this week.

If fellowship means to you, getting together with a few people and going to explore Darnassus (or wherever), then get a few people together and go and explore.

If it means having a bible study, then prepare a bible study, set a time and present it. You don't necessarily have to have a place, you can ask people to join a channel you create and you can give it over that channel.

If it means grabing a few people and running a lower levelled instance for guild funds, then do it.

Its not important what your idea of what fellowship is, what is important is you putting it into action for yourselfs.

=======

Please don't post your ideas. After you have acted out on what your idea is of fellowship, post what your experience was here. What was good, what wasn't. What could have been done to improve the experience.

I agree, even though this is a "virtual world" organizations function very similar to real world. In the bodies of believers that I'm a part of, what Bannard describes is something we wrestle with alot. It's also something we are trying to challenge people to do.

Generally people can become used to being passive. One thing I was learning this summer was the difference between the questions Why? and Who? vs What? and How?

The Why and the Who are important questions, but it's also easy to get caught up in them and not get anything practical done. They are passive questions.

The active questions are, what can I do? and how can I help?

We constantly are trying to encourage people in our leadership teams and amongst our body to step up and initiate whenever they see something that could be improved or if they have a new idea for an activity or outreach. As groups get larger, if you take an idea to the bureacracy for more than a general approval, it'll get stuck there. And even when presenting an idea for general approval, it's good to have thought through details and laid a plan out (dates, times, locations, etc). The more information that's provided, the easier it is to get approval.

Just some of my thoughts - My experience comes from being an advisor to a 100+ member student fellowship at Penn State. No organization will ever be able to perfectly meet everyone's needs. But everyone can and should be an active part in helping the body grow.

Well this was before you posted this, but I recently farmed some cash, hit the AH for cloth and tailored some gear and bags for a couple of our brand new guild members. They are totally new to wow, and i've been trying to help them out however I can when I'm online. I won't mention who, but they know who they are :)

I normally don't post this sort of thing about myself, but since you were looking for examples... :)

I find that doing this sort of thing is much more gratifying than making more money for myself or running some raid. It makes me feel good to make others feel welcome in our community and they've told me how much it's appreciated, especially considerng how overwhelming wow can seem at first!

You did this before I posted this back on October 10 2005? :eek:

That is totally amazing.

But the principles of the original post remain. That is you can't expect the guild to provide everything for you, and it is important for you to seek out what it is you want from the game, fellowship and all. Blaming guild leadership for not setting enough time aside to do something you want to do is not necessarily their fault. If you want to run Molton Core nostalgia runs every Sunday at 1:00pm, then every Sunday at 12:30pm start getting a group together from both with in and from without the guild.

Haha - I never look at the date/time of posts. It doesn't catch my eye, and I assume the first threads on the forum are the most recent - apparently they aren't :)

And yeah, that was almost exactly one year before I started playing WoW.

So, I'm hereby revising my post to say that I did my thing before I READ your post :)

But yes, the idea still stands...

Gah!

I saw Corinalbria's response and I got all excited... then I noticed it was from TWO THOUSAND FIVE.

WHY DOES EVERYONE RESURRECT THREADS!

...

<breathes into a papersack>

How did you find this? lol I have tried to search for old posts and not been able to find them until I search for threads I posted in heh.
