My baby!

I might have gotten 3 hours of sleep.  She doesn't like sleeping by herself.  She keeps waking herself up and then wants to suckle to fall asleep again.

My milk came in so hopefully that will clear up her jaundice. She's eating and dirtying lots of diapers, suddenly 500 diapers doesn't sound like a lot.

Okay here's my birth story and some pics!

On Sept 26th I started to lose my mucus plug and got random contractions through the afternoon.  At 7pm they started to become more regular and stronger.  At 10pm they were getting really painful and I called my dr. Unfortunately the doctor that was on call didn’t respond to the call or the page. Forty-five minutes later the secondary back doctor talked with me and said to go to hospital when the contractions were minutes apart and strong enough to cause me difficulty walking and talking. An hour later I had enough since I couldn’t sleep and they were hurting and coming close to 5 minutes apart.  We left for the hospital.

The hospital checked us in at around midnight for observation.  I was still only 1cm dilated and 60% effaced. All this pain for nothing?  They wouldn’t give me any pain killers or anything to dull the pain because it would make things go even slower.  So I had no choice but to lay there and deal with it.  I was checked again at 5 am. I was 2 cm dilated and 80% effaced.  At 7:20 one of my doctors came by before doing a C-section.  She said that I was 3cm and 100 effaced. She broke my water (which I didn’t realize at the time), and said that when she gets done come back and give me an epidural.  Yeah!  Unfortunately I didn’t see her again.  At around 9 another one of my doctors came by and said she wanted to give me medicine to speed up the contractions, I said okay but first give me something for the pain before you make it worse.  She didn’t want to give me epidural so instead put me on some heavy-duty painkiller, which made me sleepy between contractions but didn’t help through them.  Well the speed up medicine worked because within an hour and a half I went from 3cm to 9!  The nurse said too late for epidural and then I was at 9.5 dilation.  She made me push a few times and when the baby was crowning, she told me to hold on while they get the doctor.  Owww!   When all was said an done I needed 2 stitches.

Kaitlyn Ashley Gress arrived at 11:17am on Sept 27th, 2004 weighing in at 6lbs 5oz and 19 inches long
