Well, I am trying to make a list of must have apps for windows and doing some searching around the net I cannot find any recent lists that list anything I don't already have...so if you all would list your favorite and must have apps for windows and we will compare and contrast... :)

7zip - A great alternative to WinZip...
TeraCopy - A great alternative to windows cut, copy, and paste...
Audacity - Audio editor/mixer...
Digsby - All-in-one IM client...
DVDfab - copies DVD files (.vob) to your computer for a perfect backup...
FileZilla - FTP Client...
GIMP - Better than paint...and photoshop...
Firefox - The BEST web browser...
Google Apps/Updater - Google :D ...
Handbrake - Video Converter...
Notepad++ - Better than notepad for coding...
VLC Media Player - Play just about ANY video and audio format...
AVG Free - Good free virus and spyware/adware scanner/remover...
OpenOffice - Better than M$ Office...

I think that is just about it...

haha I think I use every single one of those (except a few I don't need like audacity). You nailed all the awesome ones!

Were these to all be free/opensource? I think all the ones you listed are.

In addition I love:

Deluge - torrent client
Freefilesync - sync across drives
Malwarebytes Anti-malware - excellent trojan/malware removal
Komposer - web authoring
AI Roboform - password saver
CCleaner - remove temp/cache files
Display Fusion - dual monitor wallpaper app
PDFill - pdf creator
VirtualCloneDrive - what it sounds like
SnippingTool - built into Vista screen grabber.
ExtraOutlook.exe - Allows multiple outlook profiles open at once.

Do you recommend Deluge over Azureus for torrent clients?

Transmission > *

Komodo Edit - For when you need to do some scripting. Actually has ok autocompletion for PHP and Python.
Live Mesh - Because it is nice to be able to access your home and work computer from each other without needing to worry about ports, etc.
Dropbox - One of the best online file synchronization systems I have ever used. Live mesh also supports syncing files, but it is slow.
Git - nice for when you want a revisioning system but don't want to run your own server. Just takes a few seconds to setup a local repo and you can push changes over the internet or to a share.
Wings 3D - Because blender's interface designer needs to suffer an "accident" for that atrocity. Not perfect but has a much much lower learning curve.
WinSCP - A decent SCP/SFTP/FTP editor that supports online editing of files (it creates a temporary file and uploads changes).
Putty - For all your SSHing needs
Virtualbox - Because some of us like virtual machines
CCCP - Because almost all the media players suck on windows anyway so you might as well avoid installing another one.
Sumatra PDF - No nonsense open source PDF viewer

My list of must have apps:
Chrome(faster than FF and IE combined)
FF(for sites that chrome does not have plugins for)
itunes(i do have 3 ipods)
Winscp
Putty
Trillian Astra(trillian 4 beta..it rocks)
CCleaner

Virtualbox is epic. It can run quake live and steam games, therefore it's epic.

PS. I'm a linux user, so VirtualBox is even more epic.

Again, if there was a way to support the games I play I would only use Linux, but some games I play, people have yet to get wine (or any other app for that matter) to work with them, and my need for iTunes (iPod)...makes my stuck with windows...and by the way...Windows 7 is looking to be comprised of win...using the RC... :)

I did not think there was a need for an improved Paint or cut and paste program.

But what do I know... :)

I started to use Google Chrome on my Netbook because of the limited screen real estate (new tabs don't make a new line). Now I use it on all of my computers and suggest it to other people.

I use VLC because it rox.

Thats about all of the mods to my computer program wise.
