I have downloaded music but have always bought the CD if i liked it and deleted it if i didnt.. p2p is a good way of listening to stuff without buying as long as you are only using it to find a style you like. Especially only listening to christian music (and having a very wierd taste) i find it hard to get good CD's.. i surf for bands i have never heard of.. rip some of their songs if i can find them, and then buy their CD if they are good..

Some good sites like Blastbeats, soundmass, christiandiscs are starting to have sound clips which rules..

u should try legal download, I use bonfire. I find a song, I listen to a sample, and if I like it I buy it, And the cool thing about bonfire is u can buy a bonfire download card from Future shop and buy the song of the net. Which I think will stop kids who don't have a credit card to download from p2p.
I used to download illegally because most cds u only like 1 or 2 songs. And it was a waste to buy a whole cd for one single.
But I think now music companies are catching up with technologies.

I think napster in Canada is charging $1 per song. When you think about it, if you are willing to pay $16 for a CD that has 2 good songs, 4 decent songs and 4 cruddy songs and 2 to 4 that shouldn't have been written, why not spend $16 and get 16 (More then a full CD) awesome tracks.

True... It works when u have a uber connection.. But for us on ghettonet it is easier to get a CD.. Quality is better too.

However for finding new bands.. places like download.com and mp3.com (dead?) are great for surf/listen/buy/download

I used it for awhile when I was visiting my Sis-in-Law over there. I think they had High Speed AOL. And that was laughable. I think I got more speed out of my pinky. I concur with Rizz, I lived it, for a short period of time.

yeah lot of times I watch much music and when I hear something I like I go dl a few songs from the net to see how they sound.
Lot of bands now offer free songs of their website. I forgot the name of the band but one of them put the entire album on their site for download for a few hours.
The last albums I bought was Norah Jones and Outcast.
Two great albums. Norah does a duet with Dolly Parton. Anything dolly sings is good. And Andre has a song featuring Speck. Who's from Dream Warriors, the first canadian rap group to tour the world.:)
Oh I also bought Kanye West's, The college dropout. Which is one of the best albums this year.

Back in the day, I stole music on the internet all the time. Napster, Audiogalaxy, etc.

I'm certainly not proud of it. Now I use iTunes. It rocks. And the artists get paid.

My main issue that drove me to steal it was that the type of music that I like (instrumental electronica) is very difficult to obtain, especially in my area. But on these services, I found all sorts of things that I could not have gotten otherwise. I have since legally obtained copies of the songs I stole, or bought the albums, or destroyed my copies of the music.

Whenever I hear someone defending the practice of illegally downloading music, they usually say, "It's not stealing because I wouldn't pay for the music if I couldn't get it for free."

This logic does not hold up. They're still getting something for nothing. You couldn't justify stealing a shirt from Mervyn's because you wouldn't have paid for it anyway. You're still taking something that does not belong to you.

Mervyns? They should give their shirts away for free. j/k
I still dl club remixes of hip hop songs. Because u can't buy them.
Is it stealing if u own the music on cassette or on vinal, and u dl the mp3 to make it a cd.???

I don't really download music. I thought about getting the legal program but I think what they are asking for is outragious. I mean, $1.00 a song? Thats a bit much for a song that won't be popular for more than a month. I currently don't own any P2P programs because it's a pain in teh butt with my router and everything, but still....and then $20 an album. I only downloaded songs before because I didn't want to pay for an entire album when all I wanted was the 1 song.

$1 is not much if u want a few songs out of a album, and once more people start using it the price will go down. U don't have to dl the whole album seperatly for $1 per song. If u want the whole album just buy it. But if u don't want the whole album and just want a few songs off it, $1 is reasnoble.

$1 is a lot for just 1 song. 5 song - $5. It all adds up. It's downright too expensive.

Is it better to pay $14 for a cd when u might only like 3 or 4 songs on it. I have alot of cds that I bought because I liked a few songs on it. So $1 is not that much

If you like 3 or 4 of the songs, than you should probably buy the album because in the end, you'll be getting more for your money.

A song is not worth $1.

Personally i think a song is worth $1.. in the UK that equates to about 65p. Here in the UK a chart single will be sold for about £3-4 ($4-6) and albums from about £12-15 ($16-19). Consider teh average songs on a single is 3-4 with often 1-2 remixes and a b-side, an album has between 7-12 songs and the more songs the more chance of filler..

It still works out mathematically more4 viable to download music for $1 a song. you know the song u get and you like it, plus its cheaper than buying a single or an album..

Of course i choose the 3rd option... secondspin.com....lol
