The rewards and perks might be fun, but the work certainly wouldn't be. I also would fear that a programmer would get significantly less enjoyment from playing a video game after having done what you mentioned above. Now a career as a "videogame tester," that I could handle!

Why isn't rock star in there? Meh, I'll make my own!

Rock Star:

It's fun because: you get to perform music for a living, have millions of fans, and make a lot of money.
Not so fun side: the many months on tour can be tedious and tiring.

I doubt it, professional game testers either burn out in a few years or dont enjoy games anymore. I know, i was offered a job by microsoft to be a pro game tester a few years ago, I looked into it, its not as fun as you think.

They forgot: Professional sports (Any) player. Yeah, it would be strenuous, but playing a sport you love for a living makes up for it.

I think they have a misconception on programmers, that job is clearly not fun. Not to mention the constant layoffs...

Yeah, you're basically the developer's wrecking ball.

I've read gaming magazine features on game testing, and it appears to be pretty arduous work. Your task may not necessarily be to complete the game and have fun, but instead it may be to attempt to "break it." You're supposed to preform nonsensical actions in an effort to crash the game. While this might be amusing for the first few minutes, doing this for countless hours could get old quickly.

I know it only takes a few minutes for me to lose interest in attempting to drive a Warthog into places Bungie never intended for the vehicle to be.
