Hey anyone seen Saved it looks like a good movie. I like sarcastic comedies. I plan on going to see Harry Potter.

Hopefully I'll go see it this friday, maybe sat. see Saved. Macacauly Culkin is a great actor, the last movie I saw him in was Party Monster. The only thing was he kissed Fez from that 70s show which is not really my thing, but for a young actor to throw them self in to a role that well and does whatever it takes to make the role more believable is pretty cool. I say an interview of will smith talking about when he did 6 degrees of seperation and he said if he had a chance to do it again he would kiss a guy in the film since he turned down the scene when he did the film, because he thought peple might think he's gay. Wow I should stop with the run on sentences.
Yeah but Harry Potter looks good do u think he's going to die in the last book. And they were saying for the last 2 films they might replace the 3 actors since they would be to old but I can't see anyone else as harry. What do u think. Wow should of made a poll.
Also my fav. Regan quote: You can tell a lot about a fellow's character by his way of eating jellybeans.

he liked his jellybeans.
Also anyone watch The Daily Show with John Stewart. Its on right now and its one of the funiest late night shows on TV. I like fake news more than real news.
Well this probobly should of been split into 3 threads but I'm to lazy. I'm a new member and thought I'd introduce my self by posting alot of topics.

re: Saved...yea, just read about this on the weekend, it does look quite funny, provided your loose enough to be able to laugh at the stereotypes (and yourself if you have to). I'll reserve judgement 'til after I see it.

re: Jon Stewart...while Stewart's news is "fake", it's still based in reality. I love his show for the fact that he mixes the celebrity with the political. I think it's got to be the only show on TV where you'll see interviews with actors, politicos and journalists all on the same show.

Oh I don't mind laughing at my self, but I enjoy relegious comedies. Do u remember that movie with Matt Damon and Ben Affleck where they played Angels. I forgot the name of that movie, but my favorite scene is when they're in the board room with the CEO's of the Toy company(I think) and Matt shoots the guy for commiting a sin. I enjoy talking to people who can take a joke and not take things to serious.
Yeah for the John Stewart show my favorite interview was the one with the guy from Arizona who wanted to legalize having guns in a bar because he thought it would lower the amount of bar fights if everyone in the bar carried guns. And any bush joke is always good since I don't really like him tht much.
Want to go watch ferinite 9/11. It makes no sence to me y if we're aginst terrorism y we haven't gone into Saudi Arabia, they have proven that most of the money that founded 9/11 came from there, but we can't live without their oil. And I was also thinking after the U.S. leaves Iraqu and the Iraquis are all disarmed what stops countries like Syria, and Iran from saying hey there's a easy target lets expand our land. Ok must stop talking about politics. I can go on forever.

It will certainly be interesting to see what effect "Fahrenheit 9/11" will have, if any, on the election. I like Michael Moore, I appreciate what he does, but you really have to take his movies with a grain of salt. There's some fact in there, but Moore can obfuscate the matter by over exagerating and underplaying various things in order to get his point across. I like his style, he's a real "truth teller" but sometimes I think he can undermine his credibility.

For example, I think his opinion of Canada is a little over rated. While some of the stuff in Bowling for Columbine was true (crime rates, unlocked doors) other stuff was out of context (the so-called "projects" that he showed in downtown Toronto). I love my country, quite proud to be living here, but it isn't all sunshine and roses as Moore paints it out to be.

Yeah Michael Moore is a great movie director, and his films are interesting, but I don't think it will effect the U.S. elections very much. I don't follow the U.S. election that well since the Federal elections are coming up, and I'm still trying to figure out if I should vote Liberal or concervative. I'm thinking about Concervative but the evil u know is better than the evil u don't so part of me is going to wards liberal. But I can't really say that I'm fully liberal or fully concervative. But I think I'm part NDP, part Liberal and part Concervative. If only there was a marijuana party I voted for them in the BC provincial. They didn't win, I think they only got my vote.

oh please.  Micheal Moore is just using these horrid crimes to further his own political agenda and pocket book.

You should always choose conservative.  Mainly because the less government plays in our lifes the better our lives are.

Here's a nice quote from a commentary I've recently read ( by Mike Straka)
[b said:
Quote[/b] ]What Grrrs me is how Moore loves to point out how Big Bad America is nothing but a giant money machine, willing to sacrifice our childrens' lives to our "innocent" gun-toting killers because the gun industry stands to lose money with regulation. He then confronts Charlton Heston and Dick Clark and tries to invoke either an apology from them or to get them to help change America to match his view of how the country would be better. He goes on to sing the praises of Canada's non-violent society (anyone for a nice game of kick-the-crap-out-of-each- other — eh hum — I mean hockey?).

But one need only to look at the title of both of his "films" — which are at least partially shot on Sony digital cameras, actually — to see that he is profiting more than anybody else from the tragedies that have befallen our country. And he stands to profit more with his latest. Check out this quote from the "Crusader of the Little Man" Moore, on his booed Oscar speech two years ago:

"When everyone was saying that any person who criticized America at a time of war would be shunned and boycotted and ignored and vilified, the sales of my books and movies went through the roof."

Gee Michael, I'm so glad our nation's tragedies are so good for your career. Did you give any of that profit to the families of the kids who were killed at Columbine? Will you be donating money to 9-11 memorials or families?

re: political parties...Being a Conservative in Canada is a little different than being a conservative in the states. While the US government tries to stay out of people's lives in the states, the Canadian government is fully integrated into society at every turn. Just look at our health care system. The government will always be a part of Canadian's lives, for better or for worse, no matter which way you vote. I think both nation's have demonstrated that both methods of government can be successful and have their benefits and drawbacks.

Personally, I havn't decided my vote yet, but it probably won't be Conservative; I'm not an economist, but anybody who says that they're going to reduce taxes AND increase spending on healthcare, education and the military at the same time seems to be using some kind of new math that I'm not familar with. They also don't really have a very concrete enviromental plan, something that is a great concern of mine, where as the other parties have made it a major part of their platforms. But I digress...

re: Moore and his pocketbook...there might be some truth in that - money corrupts, and Moore's certainly become very succesful as of late - but if that's really the case, I certainly don't believe Moore started out this way. If you watch "Roger and Me" and then watch "Bowling...", you'll two different kinds of Moores. The former presents his case slowly, with humility. He's more saddened than outraged at what has happened to his hometown. He lets his interviewers speak for themselves. Moore in "Bowling..." is agressive, ticked off, on the offensive, and you could certainly argue inflamatory and exploitive.

Is Moore using the controverstial (sp?) to get attention? Yea, naturally, he's a controverstial guy. Is he doing it for financial gain? He's made some good coin lately, but he lost his shirt on his TV Show "The Awful Truth" and there are certainly easier ways to make money.

Like I said, maybe Moore's just out to make money now, but I doubt it. He's been doing this kind of stuff for a very long time and for very little thanks or recognition. Is he exploitive? Yes. Is he doing this for his own gain? I don't think so.

*two cents in the jar*

I like Moores work just as much as I like is it Dave Mahr(from Politically Incorrect), they speak their mind and don't worry what other people say. Which is unique for a tv or movie celebrity. I don't think he goes in to it just to make a dime. I think its great that he's making money of his films because this means he can afford to make more movies.

Yeah with the concervatives the one thing I really don't like is the anti abortion issue, because I think women should have a choice, it probobly would never be my choice (I shouldn't say never) but as canadians I think u deserve a choince. But I like the fact that he wants to invest more in the military, I'm not sure where he's going to get the money from but our weapons and vehicles are ancient. But I guess the Liberals are a safe vote. The only thing is in BC with the Health care strike and all the privatisation, people will not vote Liberal because they confuse Federal and Provincial and think their one of the same. They atually cut my moms saliry by 15% retroactivly so her pay got cut from a month before the strike so she had to atually pay money back to the government which makes no sence to me. So in one way I don't like the Liberals but provincial is different that federal. Ok enough politics for the day

Provincial vs. Federal...I know what you mean. McGuinty over here in Ontario is a punk. After promising all campaign long that he wasn't going to raise taxes...he comes back and says "the situation's worse than I thought, I'll have to add on health premiums", along his way to breaking several other campaign promises. :P

I feel sorry for Martin. I think he's the one guy up to the job of leading the country - he has the experience and the vision - but his party is letting him down.

Ugh, what a mess.

well here in the State's it's quite easy to see how lower taxes can lead to increased spending (it's a capitialistic model) with lower taxes, that means the people have more money, which they in turn will spend, creating more tax money.

As for Moore, I never saw his previous movies (only Bowling..) so I had no basis for a 'good' review for him.  I just see him as an exploitive film maker trying his best to destroy the values provided us in our Constitution.

Now onto Abortion here's a rather interesting list of quotes from abortion providers you may wish to glance over.  Be warned though, its highly, HIGHLY disturbing.  While there's no cursing, no pictures (which I've seen a small moving truck around with pictures of a 10 week old abortion victim plastered all over the sides of the truck with 1 per side so they were huge, and those were probably the most disturbing things I've seen in many years), there are details.
Abortion Quotes.

Hey I was reading Roger Elberts review of saved and mandy moore's charicter is pretty weird. She's the head of most of the christian clubs. Her and her friends were telling secrets to each other under water in the pool and one of her friends says he's gay. So she gets startled hits her head pops her head out of the pool and thiks she sees jesus, and thinks its a sign from god to make her friend straight again. But its just the pool boy. Her plan is to sleep with her friend to make him straight again and since god is telling her that she should do this he will restore her virginity. But after sleeping with her friend he still remains gay and she ends up being pregnant. So she trys to get a abortion but meets her brother and his girlfriend on the way and wouldn't go to the clinic. The funniest line in is "There's only one reason a christian girl would come down to the planned parenthood clinic" "She's planting a pipe bomb".It seems like the funniest movie of the year, I couldn't stop laughing while reading the review. My favorite young actress right now is Jenna Malone, she's a smart actress who your never going to see in a Hirary Duff Movie.
Also Paris Hilton video came out this week. So she's going to be on the Letterman show this monday. Who would pay 50$ for the DVD, I saw it at a friends place and most of the movie is her making pouty faces to the camera. I rather watch the Simple Life over and over again. But I'd love to have Paris's job she gets paid an average of $10,000 a night to show up at parties and have fun. I guess y pay for publicity when she comes with like 50 paparazzis (is this a real word) following her around.
Also When Harry met Sally is on TBS one of my favorite Billy Cristal movies ever. I can watch it over and over again.

Saw Shrek 2 couple days ago...is it me or is Dreamworks just ripping everybody else off, in particular Pixar? Actually, that's not a rhetorical question, I'm curious to know if people think "Antz" was any better/similar to "Bug's Life", if people think Shrek 1 and 2 was funny or if the references to famous movie/tv moments were funny (as that seems to be what all the jokes are set up as), and if "Shark's Story" seems...well, rather timely after last year's lost clown fish saga.

PS on the abortion thing (this thread has been all over the place, hasn't it?)....those quotes ARE atrocious (sp?). One thing I see running through it is that they are ENCOURAGING it, but I guess that's because they're "making a sale", right? If the mother-to-be goes with adoption, the clinic doesn't make any money. To quote when we were talking about Moore, money corrupts. (was that this thread? I'm losing track.) Regardless of our stance on the abortion issue, you'd think that you would be getting sound advice from your doctor or counseler on health issues, be it abortion or something else, and they'd regard you as a human being, not a paycheque.

BTW, I do recommend seeing "Roger and Me". Yes, "Columbine" was exploitive and I winced sometimes with some of the things he was saying and the way he obviously sets people up to be dumb (though sometimes they do it to themselves), but "Roger and Me" is certainly a different kind of film with a different kind of story to tell. Give it a shot when you have nothing else to do; if anything, you can cross it off your personal copy of the 1001 Movies to see before you die.

strange. the passion rips it up in the movies(thats a good term) and instantly theire are people out there to cash in, with a payout, and we give them our support by going.

If i ever go to a movie thats a payout on christianity, or out of the 'box' that i normally see, i only do it for an objective reason. Not just to see it. i saw dogmata to see what the 'world' thinks about god stuff, and i liked it. i saw harry potter cos every religious (in a negative way) christian was whining about it, and i didn't have any opinion, so went and read about it first, and then went to see it, to form my own opinion.

I have received emails about 'saved' saying don't see it. I think i will since i think we need to see what is being said, so we can be constructive about it. I also know a reporter who will ask me my opinion when i comes out, so i need the right answer.

But for most things i am carefull what i let in the 'gate' into my heart.

What music is infuencing you negatively. what movies, what mags books or web sites. Use a little wisdom into what you alow into your heart. garbage in, garbage out.

food for thought

Heheh, that's hilarious! There's a vid of a guy running through Quake 1 on nightmare level in 13 (!) mins. (link - under videos) Probably not as impressive, I think HL is a harder game, but at least this one you can watch in a few minutes.

Yesterday night I watched Lost Souls and The Exorcist. The Exorcist 2 was on right after but it's not as good as the original. Lost Souls was very interesting and the actors did a great job. Its like what would u do if u found out that u are going to transform into the anti-christ. I found it very interesting. And the exorcist was good I've never watched the whole movie from starting to end before. When I was a kid it used to scare the bajebas out of me. But it was really good.
Also off topic I watched Jepordy. That guy has won 17 games in a row, with total winnings of like $600,000. Its crazy how many questions he gets right. A couple days ago when they were going into final jepordy his winnings were $27,000, and the next highst player was $7,300. He answers almost everything.
