Monoculus got an upgrade

Monoculus is tough for a floating eyeball with no big arms to slap you around with. But apparently he's no match for the TF2 community's passion and ability to kill floating eyeballs.

To up the ante, and to challenge those of you who can best Monoculus with one eye tied behind your back, now every time he is defeated, he becomes tougher when he respawns. Go get him!
Source: Enter... MONOCULUS!... AGAIN!

Hm, maybe it's worth actually playing Eyeaduct again to see how mean he gets.

I've seen it say level 2 or some such thing after his name. Basically he seems to have more hit points and that's about all I can tell. I didn't get anything for defeating him again.

Still if you guys want to get together remember the server is passworded for cooperative gift farming until the 6th. Password tojevent .

Hm. That's a bit of a letdown.

Oh well, I'll probably still play the map one more time anyway.

Each time you defeat him he gets harder. More hitpoints, maybe a little faster (I didn't see it). I've seen him get to level 4. Each time he comes in and you don't defeat him he goes down a level until he reaches the 1st level. This carries over between rounds.

I wonder how far we could "level" Monoculus on the ToJ TF2 server...

Hmmm I wonder if it goes down does anything significant happen when he gets to 0? I still doubt it does as it was trickled out in the middle of the event along with some soldier lines.

Like I said, I've only seen it get to Level 4. But I guess with some teamwork and cooperation it would be interesting to see.

From Level 2 it drops to a normal Monoculos with no level. It doesn't go down any further from there.

Oh I misread you. You meant it goes up in level every time you defeat him and down if he leaves without being defeated. My bad. I've seen the levels myself but never paid attention to them to busy gift hunting.

We tried to level up Monoculus last night but it was kinda like herding cats.

Class limits and killing/capping between visits hurt us quite a bit. I don't think I saw him get over level 2. We also had several people that cycled thru that weren't trying to help when he did show up and instead were just trying to kill everyone.

It really takes a server full of scouts not capping and not killing, working together, to push it up there.

The two players who didn't follow the "truce when Monoculus spawns" rule were both kicked from the server last night and banned for 1 day. (In hindsight, I probably should have made it a 1-hour ban.)

Which reminds me:

Gerbil: Is it possible (and easy) to temporarily disable class limits during the Halloween event?

Actually I'd like to see the class limits removed altogether. :-P

On another note I wonder if a map could be constructed that would let player characters (PCs) play against mob boss NPCs (i.e. no PVP). The difficulty would rated by the number of PCs on the server. It would be fun to coordinate attacks on 3 MONOCULI at once. :-)

Sorry it's not happening XD. We did try several variations of class limits I did not just decide on these settings. I believe 3 everything but Heavy gives the best balance. Two heavies on a cart is perfectly feasible to take down. Six heavies with medics destroys the balance. It becomes really easy to attack and really hard to defend against it. Actually defense is generally harder to coordinate overall but that is just my opinion. It is possible to set class limits per map but I'm not going through every map we have and doing that (and there is no way to set it by map type with this plugin). There is also a reference to being able to set limits by percentage which I would do but haven't figured out how yet.

I do wish there was an easy turn off class limits command though :/ .

I know bots have difficulty level settings so a mod seems possible if nothing else. I have not seen multiple boss mods as yet but I don't frequent servers of that type.

I'd like a L4D style game mode for TF2. Of course you'd have to make a few modifications to the classes (hp issues) but fighting hordes of red on a blu mission sounds fun. I'd include class limits on it though as IMO it's more fun when players must work together. If all the players are the same anyone could do any job and no one would have a guaranteed "needed" moment but if each has a role it's like a "heist" movie.

Even if class limits were removed I don't think it would be a problem. It's hard enough now getting people to work together and play classes we need. 6 heavies on a cart would be a steamroll but getting 6 people to play heavy instead of sniper or spy to push the cart would be the hard part.
/endrant

I've been on several servers where the horseman and monoculus were both spawned several times each. I've also seen an admin playing the horseman so I'm sure it's possible. Not sure how but I'm sure it can be done.
