I'm not big into politics. I listen to political talk radio occasionally, but that's about it.
Here are my basic opinions, for what they're worth.
Peraonally, I'm haven't been thrilled with any of the choices. McCain is very liberal issues that I think are extremely important such as abortion & marriage, and I'm not crazy about his ideas for amnesty. Still, if he ends up being the republican candidate (which it looks like that's guaranteed), i'll back him simply because he's the lesser of two evils.
I don't know as much about Huckabee. I've heard that he's not as conservative as what people are trying to make him out to be. Some will say that he's good because he's a former Southern Baptist minister, but doesn't mean much to me since Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, Al Gore, Rick Warren and Ed Young are all Southern Baptists. I don't like the politics of Carter, Clinton, and Gore, and I have issues with the theology taught by Warren & Young.
On the democrat side, we have Clinton & Obama. Clinton of course is a socialist and wants move our country to a point where we're taking from the rich and giving to the poor. Rather than rewarding hard work, those who work hard to make a living should be giving money to the lazy people who are on welfare.
However, I honestly feel better about Clinton than I do about Obama. We know where Clinton stands and what she's about, but nobody really knows much about Obama. I'll give him that he is a powerful speaker and makes people want to get behind him, but if you pull away all of the fluff from his speeches, there's nothing substatial left. The most that I know about Obama is that he is known as the absolute most liberal of all of the senators, and that he is a socialist.
Now when it comes time to vote, I'll most likely be voting for McCain if he is the republican candidate. I've heard some say that maybe it's time for a conservative party to emerge, but I'm not sure about that. Traditionally, third parties steal votes from one of the two primary parties. In this case, a conservative party would steal votes from the republican candidate guaranteeing a victory for the Democrats. It could happen, but historically anytime a third party emerges and gains power, one of the other parties ends up folding leaving you with two parties again.
It was already said by someone, but in the end as a Christian, the best I can do is pray that God's will is done and then cast my vote.
