Mirakle's Introduction

Hi friends.
I joined the guild today and wanted to say hi!
I was an officer in the SoE guild wars chapter for a long time. Now I am totally hooked on WoW and can't think of playing any other game. (well ok Oblivion if my pc could handle it)
I have a 60 priest on Aegwynn, so I know what I am doing for the most part, but I am open for all kinds of help/suggestions and I take criticism well.
I am still going to be playing my Priest a lot for raids n stuff, but I wanted to start a 2nd char (none of my other alts are going anywhere) and I thought that the Christian community would be such a relief from the vulgarity of my guild on Awegwynn
I rolled a human Pally cause thats the one char I haven't taken past 20. I love healing but want to get up in the mix, so I think I will stick with this char to 60.
Oh I might as well tell you a little about me: I am 33(maturity of 21) married , no kids, 1 puppy. I love all things tech and Internet and of course V-games. My wife and I recently spent the past 3 years in Italy doing missions work. Now I am considering taking a job for a couple years to raise some money to return to the field. Being currently unemployed allows for lots of WoW time!
Anyways good to be part of the chapter and I will see you all in game.

welcome!

Yes after you touch WoW basically you forget other games...mainly due to time sink and various things you can do in game. I personally only play WoW now...once in a while I hop on CS 1.6 to play with some "old" friends.

Great to meet you Mirakle.

I still play StarCraft and Warcraft III from time to time, but the majority of my time gaming is spent on WoW (but even then, it's not a whole lot).

I'll see you around, and God bless.

ok I don't know now. I started looking up Paladins and talking to some friends who have 60s and I don't think I will like the class as much as thought. I might change Mirakle to a warlock, I dunno. LOL

I figured that I would still get to beat on mobs in Raids while healing, but it seems that Pallys stand back like priests and even wear cloth sometimes. I might as well play my priest then, thats almost the same thing.

I have only played Horde to end game so I don't really know what a pally does there.

I think people like to pigeonhole characters, so sad. In the "end game", yes, pallies tend to do healing \ curing, back with the priests and druids. But that is only while learning the instance \ encounter. Once the instance \ encounter is on farm status, raid leaders don't (or maybe they ought not) care, so long as you take care of your primary roles first.

Right now, in our MC run with the Holicron Knights, druids are fighting for agro on all trash mobs. Priests are popping Holy fire, Holy Novas, smites and if applicable, starshards. And Pallies are whacking away at trash mobs and bosses.

Don't like to be pigeonholed into a role in the end game, stay away from warlocks, mages and rogues.

Warlocks = DPS and Banish and Die (oh, and get that SS up on a, PALLY)
Mages = DPS and Decurse and Die
Rogues = DPS and Die

(simplistic list of roles)

Where as with Pallies you get, heal, DPS, cure, blessings, auras, DI, rez and judgements. Are you really that eager to walk away from the most versatile class in end game on the advice of a few who choose to allow themselves to be pigeonholed? Ask your friends why they are not making sure blessings are up, that the right aura is selected, that the wisdom\light judgements are not up on the mobs \ bosses?

hmmm thanks for the input there GP.. that does give me something to think about... Although it wasn't so much the pigeonholing that was bothering me as much as it was it sounding like I did the same things I did on a priest. I just got a little bummed when on the Raid info page i saw that Pallys wear cloth over lightforge..

Maybe I will level some more and see what I think, it definitely is a different climb to 60 then priest was, and the free mount is super enticing.

If you have the time I'd appreciate any more info form lvl 60 Pallys and their experiences.

I don't pigeon hole anyone it is simple both Pallies and Driuds were created to do the same thing.....

Pally = Flag Carrier

oo! you're on aegwynn!

I have an alt named "Rennd" on that server...along with a few other friends i know. I don't really play much on that server, tho.

Oo, and about pallys...
Being pigeonholed has almost nothing to do with the class; GP explained why pretty well imo. The idea of being "pigeonholed" is mainly a raid group's decision; pallys have lots of different roles, like shield-pulling; a privelege the horde does not have. What pallys are not so happy about is simply because they're not meleeing as what one would expect of being a typical lore-based "paladin". raid groups that force paladins into the back lines simply are not utilizing their options.
However, i dunno how many ppl noticed this but when a judgement is put on an enemy it used to last 30 seconds, and then the judgement would have to be recast. Now (I think after 1.9 this was implemented), it lasts only 10 seconds, but has its duration refreshed with MELEE STRIKES!! :D
For this reason i often go to the front and swing a little bit in Molten Core while throwing a heal left or right. In nasty situations like phase 3 ony when half the raid is down, however, spamming our weak and puny flash of light is our main role.

Sometimes paladins do have to play priests; but so do shamans and druids in many situations as icthus said. Caydiem said on the pally forums that if a class can heal, that will be their main job. Shamans experience a similar experience, and dropping totems is almost the same as throwing blessings (and with greater blessings it is MUCH better than it used to be).
And because on release our heals generated much less aggro, paladins don't really get hit much unless they're specifically tanking. For this reason, plate armor like lightforge is useless in those situations. Better to get cloth armor with more +int and mana regen than high armor if that's the case.

But I'm mostly a pvp pally; and in world pvp, we have some weaknesses like lack of controllable burst dps and lack of snares. But, playing and researching a few other classes, many would trade those abilities for self-heals and divine shield. No other class can last as long as a paladin in most cases. But, of course, every class lasts longest AGAINST a paladin as compared to any other class unless they get unlucky.
What has bothered me the most is the battlegrounds, and the concern is basically the same thing healing priests/druids have. "Friend" Warriors. They don't group up, and expect u to sacrifice your chances to get honor by healing them so they can leech up all the honor. They flame u saying "you are not a warrior!! heal me u n00b!" often because they know paladins have the weakest controllable burst dps in the game, and having pallys swing their weapons instead of healing gets them mad. Paladins have a bad reputation from this, not just from warriors, and i often find it quite insulting. Thankfully I'm done with battlegrounds for good as a paladin.

As a warning, paladin damage is probably the worst in the game. Yes there are big numbers as some can see in my videos; but they are simply uncontrollable. Much of our dps is based upon a proc; completely reliant on chance, or extremely mana inefficient. Sometimes we 2-shot warriors in plate, sometimes we take dozens of swings with an Unstoppable Force killing a green/blue cloth wearer. And in battlegrounds for earning honor, that's a huge handicap.
Still, paladins are perhaps the ultimate support class in the game. Blessing of freedom, cleanse, blessing of sacrifice, etc makes a good pally EVERYONE's best friend. it's been said that "pally + any class = 2 gods on the battlefield." The truth is not far distant.

But a huge problem not having to do with the class but rather the programming: seal of command, the paladin's main damaging ability (for the majority of paladins at least) has been bugged since day 1 of release. It often says "spell not ready" when it evidently is ready. Switching ranks of seal of command works, but then you lose that rank to use until you relog.

As i wrote a bit on in the class guide on our WoW forums, paladins can certainly tank; it's just a bit more difficult because of lack of damage and lack of taunt. Still, I've tanked scholo/strat/brd and offtanked UBRS/ZG quite fine, and I've seen well-geared paladins tank Onyxia for minutes at a time.

All in all, most people before seeing WoW think of paladins as 75% warrior and 25% priest. WoW paladin is more like 50-50.

Ahh nice, that was inspiring, I will go read your guides soon. Thanks for the input , I think I will stick with my original decision and embrace the Paladin class.

Yeah add me to friends on Aegwynn..I need more christian fellowship there, I am pretty much the only light in my guild.

sweet; as my "sensei" Sandric (Plankeye) said, "You can never have too many pallys." :D

They say shamans are overpowered because they can do molten core and ony with a raid only of shamans...

But paladins have done the same before too, and same with druids.

Can you do MC with only a group of 5 Pallies??? Thought not, Shammies can raid MC with groups of 5 starting at level 10 with their first talent point: Overpoweredness!!!!

Wow, that's so cool! I'm currently going through seminary, and plan on going to Italy as a missionary! What part of the country did you serve in and what group where you with? I'm a candidate right now with both CrossWorld and TEAM. Anyways, great to meet you, if I can do anything for you let me know!!

Play whatever you want! Pally, rogue, hunter, War, Caster, chimmy sweeep, its all good!

This pally is top 5 in healing every MC run and I have never worn cloth (I take that back, I do wear a cloth cape). I would be in the top 3 if it weren't for imp pulls and cleanse fights where I am expected to do things other then heal. So the cloth is better argument is null and void and should be removed from that guide as it was a copy of another guild's MC requirements. There are now a lot of +int, +mana regen and +heal plate gear out there so no reason to wear a dress to a fight (unless you have judgement). There is even a pally tanking set with +defense and +mana regen (Deathbone). So gear up correctly and no need for cloth.

Burst damage is attainable based on your spec. Try holy spec. I can burst 1k+ damage (Melee swing 250-500, Hammer of Justice, Judged Seal of Command 350-900, Holy Shock 350-600) which for softer targets low on health is often enough to finish them off with our hammer for another 500-1000 damage. Min non crit burst for that combo is 1450 max at 3000 if everything were to crit. Seeing how I can do this all while being completly invulnerable makes the pally one tuff cookie.

Everyone has their own play style. To me, I see it as a challenge to take the worst healer in the game and stay in the top 5 of healers and get to wear plate doing it. No soft squishy here. Fully raid buff, I sport 5k health, 5.5k mana and 7k armor.

I fully look forward to the expansion. Since blizzard recently updated several of our spells to also work on demons, it should add even more fun for us. Pallies have our best damage against undead/demons.

Pallies are the best fill in the blank support class. Priests and Druids are gimped by the fact that to perform other roles like dps or tank, they have to give up their ability to heal (shadowform for priest and shapshifting for druids). We have auras, multiple party buffs. Anti wipe tools. Can take and dish out damage. Again, jack of all trades, master of none. As GP points out, to be a good pally, you need to know how to perform all those jobs and when to perform them. You do not play a pally if you expect to just heal or attack like so many other classes are pigeonhold into.

when I first started playing and reading the manual, I was looking over the class guide and I thought I would really love playing as a pally. However after creating that charecter I got bored of him. After that I Re-rolled into every class except a warlock to try them all, out of all of them I really enjoyed the Hunter class. They are very nice for my style of playing (Solo) and they can use almost every weapon and every kind of armor except plate. I would have to say that my only problem with them is that everyone plays as a night-elf Hunter.

I'm gonna give it a shot. Thanks for all the info, I am looking forward to seeing Mirakle progress. Lastnight I found out that Quantum just started playing here. That's hawt! The 2 of us used to 2-man the Underworld in GuildWars for countless hours.

What part of the country did you serve in and what group where you with?
We were in the Venice region. Up North at the top of Italy. We are working with a small semester abroad bible school first, then a small church-planting mission there that I'm sure you never heard of. hehe

Question...How long does it take for the roster to add me? I have the wow reader going and on my character profile it says I am in Redeemed, but not on the signature page yet.

I see you are on the guild roster, it shows you are a Human Pally lv 8 with the profession of Blacksmith lv 2.

The guild roster is cached as allakhazams site can be slow or down at times. So it can take upto 24 hours for cached version to be replaced by a more upto date version.
