i've registered my account..how do i get my username on minecraft? is it my e-mail addy? Or do i have to buy the game and then setup my username?

There is a whitelist thread stickied that has all the info we require. post there and we can get you set up. You will need to purchase the game though if you have not yet..

no i meant i see other with usernames that are not their e-amil addy. is your minecraft username creaed after you pay for the game and launch it the first time??

Yeah, when you buy the game, you register on Minecraft.net (either buying it through them or entering a code from buying it at a store, I imagine). The username you pick on there will be your username in the game.
