ChickenSoup thinks this is the greatest waterfall.

Sure it's big, but would you want to frolic in its waters, or gaze upon its beauty?

I thought not. Now the Southern Appalachians have the real thing.

Exhibit 1: Anna Ruby Falls (left: Curtis Creek, 153 feet; right: York Creek, 50 feet)

Exhibit 2: Minnehaha Falls (60 feet of cascading mini-falls)

Exhibit 3: Toccoa Falls (186 feet of beautiful freefalling water)

More proof can be submitted, but this is already long...

psh. Michigan will NEVER be pwned by any state!

we have cars! Detroit, baby. booyakasha.

(I may have moved out of MI, but I am still a michiganer at heart)

besides, Niagra has the pure awesome power that georgia's falls will never have. beauty is in power.

but besides, Canada has the better side of the falls. I know, cuz I've been there.
those canadians. always so funny with their "ehs" and their "aboots"

but you wanna see a cool waterful, look to none other than our neighbor, Venezuela.

Angel Falls

My wife was born in Michigan but she got to Texas as fast as she could. Everyone knows Texas is the greatest state. :p

Unfortunately there was one moment when Toccoa Falls (which is higher than Niagara, by the way  ) became extremely powerful and deadly. Back in 1977, after 2 days of torrential rain, the dam behind the falls broke. A 129-million gallon wedge of water 30 feet high thundered over the falls, travelling at 120 miles per hour. Huge boulders and tree trunks tumbled before it. Look at the picture above and just imagine if you'd been standing there at that moment. The wave smashed through homes and a trailer park, flinging rocks and debris in its path, and it devastated the campus of nearby Toccoa Falls Bible College. 39 people lost their lives, including three students who were housed in the basement of one of the college buildings.

According to the Christian History Institute:

"Survivors sang and prayed while sitting naked and muddy above the receding waters. Some thanked God in the moment of terror, remembering his command to give thanks in everything...Pat Sproull rode a roof to survival. While in the hospital, she learned that her three daughters had died. Asked how she could be so strong (she was comforting others through tears, despite her personal tragedy), she replied, 'We gave our girls to God long ago, even before they were born. He's just taken them now'...After the disaster, a reporter asked one of the professors how he would vindicate God to the students after the disaster. 'The question has never even come up,' replied the theologian. Most of the students believed that God was in charge of their lives--not themselves."

Quite a story. But back to the topic of whose waterfalls pwn (and I take note that CS's waterfall image is suddenly nowhere to be found  ), I think it will depend on what you like in a waterfall. If you like waterfalls that are beautiful, approachable (in that you can even swim at the base if you want) and secluded, you just can't beat the personal favorite of Mirawyn and I: Helton Creek Falls, near Blairsville GA.

And if its power you want, you can actually WALK behind Dry Falls in Highland NC (VERY close to the GA border, so I'll just claim it for GA :p) and stand there as the water crashes down in front of you. Believe you me, that's plenty enough power when you're that close!

So in conclusion - sorry, but the Southern Appalachian's waterfalls pwn all else.

Waterfalls nothing. We have connections to 4 great lakes, one of them (superior) being the biggest freshwater lake in the world!

Pictured Rocks:

Plus, we have tens of thousands of lakes, Sleeping Bear Dunes, the Car Capital of Pwnage Everything (Detroit-however, the crime sorta makes that a Pyhrric victory :p), etc...

BUT MOST OF ALL, MACKINAC ISLAND FUDGE!!!! W00T!!! 0WN3Ð!!!!

(Oh, and in case the great lakes seem nothing compared to the ocean, we have NO SHARKS! :p)

***more pics on the way!***

Plus, I assume many Georgians have never had a snowball fight in their life! You wouldn't last a week in the snow against me and my elite snowball... elite people!

As a Michigander (yes, this is the correct term for a resident of Michigan, even our Canadian governor knows that, eh) myself, I hate to point out that only one of those pictures (although the third one didn't load on my computer) is of a production model vehicle actually built in Michigan.

The Camaro Concept was built in Michigan, but only the one was built so far.

The Ranger is, until the plant closes in 2008, built in Minnisota.

The monster truck definitely did not roll of the assembly line like that, and the assembly line portion only had about a 50/50 shot of being from a Michigan plant.

The 'Vette factory is in Kentucky.

The design and engineering for each was still done in Michigan, but as few "American" cars are built in Michigan as foriegn cars are actually built in Japan or Korea these days.

Oh come on, do you think we live in the tropics?

Sure, we aren't snowbound for most of the year, and we don't have to dig our way out of our houses, but we do get snow, you know. But then it goes back to being tolerable...and our flowers stay in bloom through the whole thing!

And we appreciate our snow. We don't take it for granted. We give it respect, and make it feel special! :D

So, is everyone else having as much fun as I am? :D

point was, GM and Ford are both based in MI.

I mean, everything is built everywhere. Hondas are built in the US.
fords have mazda parts, my Grand Am has some saab engineering in it.

and the camaro... two were built.lol. one for the detroit show, another for the LA. hopefully more will follow.

Yes, I like your lakes! Georgia has absolutely *zero* natural lakes in the entire state! The man-made ones we do have range from extremely nice (like, Lake Winnfield Scott near Blood Mountain) to extremely crowded (Lake Lanier, Allatoona, etc.)

I've never counted this as a problem though. We have a coast, for one thing (snicker snicker), and there's plenty o' fishing, crabbing, jetskiing and stuff there. And on the topic of fishing - everyone knows the best tasting fish in the world are the trout from Georgia's rivers and creeks. :)

And anyway people, isn't mentioning lakes and cars (!) in a post about waterfalls something like a guy who is confronted when he walks around town without any pants on, and says, "Pants? Nothing. Just look at my boxer shorts. Are your boxer shorts as nice as mine? And just look at my wristwatch! Do you have one of these? Huh, huh?"

:D

Uh... dorkelf... We have a coastline... one of the longest in States...

No, the best fish are fresh walleye from Michigans lakes :D

Ehh, it's all lakes...What about a nice ocean? You know, where you can actually swim...

See, Georgia pwns Michigan because we have nice mountains, ocean shoreline, and nice, farmable flat areas, all in the same state!

Besides, everyone knows Georgia grows one of the best and sweetest onions in the world: the Vidalia!

We have a LOT of farms in Michigan. I've been to Mid-Michigan and I can tell you out there its mostly farms. Want mountains? Go to the Northwestern Upper Peninsula. Want NO SHARKS and STILL SWIMMABLE and very long coastlines? Go to the Greak Lakes or one of the thousands of lakes here. And as for onions-thats really a last resort. People don't go to places for onions. Now, Mackinac Island fudge... ;)

River Street Sweets (in Savannah) makes the most amazing pralines ever. Way better than fudge!

Yes, lakes are nice, and Michigan has lots of lakes-huge lakes. But what's the water temperature again? I like it here. Mountain water is always cold, but it's not that cold in Geogia. And the ocean isn't that bad, even in winter.

How about in Michigan? :D
