I'll load up the game and exit it again to see if I get the same graphical glitch.
It gave the same graphical glitch, but this time, it only applied to the Trillian chat window I had open. So it seems that the current drivers have trouble re-drawing the last active window before Half-Life 2 is loaded. Oh, and the same thing happened with Counter-Strike: Source (last active window looks funky when I exit the game).
A quick refresh fixes the problem, so I'm not too concerned about that. Still, that's pretty weird. Is this the kind of thing that ATI users have come to expect from their video card drivers?
EDIT: I would post a screenshot of the glitch, but when I hit PrintScreen and try to paste the clipboard into IrFanView or Paint Shop Pro, I get an error message saying that the image can not be pasted. Weird.
Another concern: When I was playing through Half-Life 2 and came to the loading point (early in the game, after that guy says, "Get in here!" and you rush toward the rooftop), the game locked up at the "Loading" screen. The next time I ran to the same point, the next level loaded in only a few seconds. Very strange.
So far, everything I've experienced sounds like a driver, and not a hardware, issue. Which is good. Because I'm really,
really tired of computer problems right now.
EDIT: By the way, I notice a significant difference between my old video card and my new one, more than I had expected. When I first loaded up the game and G-Man was in my face, I was stunned at the realism of the graphics. Most impressive.
