Hey everyone,

I've decided that I'm going to get Guild Wars in the next few days (probably tomorrow after work), and I wanted to ask what I needed to know. Which versions should I get? What server or group do I need to join once I start? Any suggestions on class or character type? Who do I contact to update my ToJ (currently only xBox Live) to include Guild Wars?

Looking forward to your comments,

TJ

1. Prophecies is fun and diverse, Nightfall is very awesome with Heroes and other things, Factions is meh.
2. JOIN SoE! Well, SOE. (don't know the difference? Too bad, I'm sure someone will clear it up though :P)
3. elementalists dish out elemental (fire, water, air, earth; fire is the most used and my favorite, earth is defensive, air is used for quick spikes and speed, and water has a plethora of hexes) damage (most damage in a single hit in the game I think) while having sacrificed armor, warriors soak it up and tank and are generally thorns in your side and can use shouts to boost stats for a few seconds, they use hammers, swords, or axes. Mesmers use sneaky under-handed mind melds to accomplish their own goals (I izzint prejoodissed!!), ritualists summon powerful spirits and... um... I forget. Assassins are the most looked down upon, IMO, and reportedly the hardest to use, but they can have the highest dps (damage per second) of any class... then there's monks, which heal and protect or use smiting prayers to dish it out. Necromancers are the Hot Topic-frequenting gothic nerds you see sulking around bingo parlors in their off-time, but they can curse and sap health away and have undead minions... rangers use bows and ranged attacks and can have a pet, and also lay traps and can summon spirits (not so powerful as the ritualists', mind you). Paragons? They're like angelic leader people who use chants, which are like shouts but last longer sometimes aaaannnddd I forget the rest. They throw spears, if that's kewl to you. Dervishes wear sissy robe-dress things but have awesome scythe weapons that can hit up to three enemies at once (if you have Apply Poison, which causes your physical attacks to inflict poisoning, it's really awesome) and they can even shapeshift, sort of, with certain elite skills.

That's my totally unbiased opinion on the classes...

I'll most definitely start off with an elementalist, as it reminds me of a guy in my book. I might make a warrior too at some point, just because I like being a beast.

Do you have to have all the versions to play? Or can I just pick up Prophesies?

no no, you can have only prophecies, or only factions, or only nightfall. But if you start off with an ele in prophecies you'll be juuuust liiiike meeeeee.... o.0 0.o

HA! I HAVE A MINION NOW TOO! EAT IT UP, MAID! I GOT HIM FIRST!! :p

prophasies is by far the most fun. I own all three and have enjoyed them all, but phrophases is more fun and has more varriety, on the down side, it does not have unike classes, but it is still far better than the others (in my opinion, and most of the Guild's)

I second the not buying Factions first advice. Prof. and NF each have good points for a starting game. In NF you can grow up your toons really fast (lvl 20 in a week if you work on it) and your own personal heroes. In Prof. you get free skills as rewards for quest ( I think I have spent more GW money on skills than anything else in the game), you grow slow enough to really learn how to best play your toons, and it has the longest and most diverse playing time of all the games.

PS
My family are the new member officers for the guild. Please let us know if you have any questions or need anything. We can help set you up with a nice weapon set and like buying the first armor upgrade suit. (Doesn't that mean that all newbies are my minions? :p )

Alrighty! I will be buying Prophesies on my way home from work tomorrow! At least that's my plan. Is there a specific server I need to log into? I played EverQuest for a few months back in the day and I know there were about 40,004,982,234 different server choices.

nope, there's just different "districts" in towns/outposts, usually only like 1-4 unless there's an event going on so in guild/alliance chat you'll not see "what server we meet" but "what dist?"

Just be sure to holler if you need help. Some of these guys have really good builds to help you succeed. They certainly have helped me alot.

C$, you're a mascot. How can a mascot have minions?

pff you never helpped me when i was a noob.
*waits for lightning to strike STC*

And yes, let us know if you have questions or need help. We like new people. :)

Maybe I should give the story behind minion cookies at some point...but right now my lunch is almost up.

But only MY minions get cookies. And whoever they choose to share them with. :)

So, I went to EB Games and asked them for "Guild Wars: Prophesies" and they said, "That game doesn't exist." So... I am completely lost.

I have all three games. My characters are.

Wedge Charr (Ele/Mo) (Level 20) (Prophecies)
Kanata Osuka (War/Mo) (Level 20) (Factions)
Kojo Negash (Dev/Mo) (Level 15) (Nightfall)
