Mass Effect 2 - PS3 release date

Electronic Arts has confirmed to IGN that Mass Effect 2 for PlayStation 3 will ship in the United States on Jan. 18. 2011 and Jan. 21 in Europe.

Given that the first Mass Effect title will remain a Xbox 360 exclusive, EA and BioWare will include an interactive comic with the PS3 copies to help bridge the storylines. The choices made in the comic will carry over into your Mass Effect 2 playthrough.

Mass Effect 2 for PS3 also includes the previously released downloadable content Lair of the Shadow Broker, Project Overlord, Kasumi: Stolen Memory and the Blood Dragon Armor on the Blu-ray disc. The Zaeed and Firewalker content is also accessible through the Cerberus Network.

As for the DLC, that's a pretty good deal. Would pick this up if I didn't already have the ME1 playthrough and bought some ME2 DLC on the PC (about three days ago might I add). xD

I've been on a LBP2 media blackout because I want to enjoy the first game until there's a Greatest Hits or Game of the Year Edition of LBP2 and it goes on sale. But if LBP1 is any indication, LBP2 will rank higher in purchase priority.

Would pick this up if I didn't already have the ME1 playthrough and bought some ME2 DLC on the PC (about three days ago might I add). xD

I already own ME1 (bought it on sale for $10 on a Steam sale) but uninstalled about 2-3 hours in due to lack of hard drive space (which I've since resolved by upgrading to a 500GB hard drive) and general disinterest. I've read it ramps up later, but there are already several titles ahead of ME1 in my backlog queue, so buying the PC version of ME2 is pretty low on the priority list.

That being said, for people who didn't play ME1 and prefer console to PC controls, this sounds like great news.

EDIT: And I can't help but think there are going to be more than a few PS3 owners who read about the PS3 release date for ME2 and think, "Mass Effect...2? Don't they mean 3? What's the date on this article?"

Glad I'm not the only one who wasn't enthused about Mass Effect after playing it for a while. I had to put at least 5-10 hours into it, but it just never clicked for me. I wanted to love it, but it just didn't happen. Sad day. Gonna give it another shot in the future, but... backlog.

Cool news for how they're handling the PS3 version of the game, I should add. Still, I think I'll go for the 360 version when I finally play through it. Even if I didn't love it before, I still wanna experience the first rather than read about it.

But I kinda wanna read about it, too. Marvel's Motion Comics are really cool (heart Spider-Woman: Agent of S.W.O.R.D.), and if that's how the Mass Effect comic rendition is handled... well... that'd be really neat, too. But yeah.
