I apologize if this has been posted elsewhere, but I'm excited about the mage buffs that were just posted on the forums and thought I'd share... :)

Post by Eyonix on Mage forums:

There are a few nice improvements we're making to the mage class in patch 2.3.2 (a small patch that will be on the public test realms soon) and we wanted to share them with you. First, we'll start out with two changes affecting all mages. Ice block will become a core ability, trainable by all mages at level 30. Additionally, conjure mana (rank 6) will restore 1800-3000 mana and will now have three charges, meaning you can use it three times before having to create a new one.

To be sure we're clear here, yes, the same cooldown will still apply between usages. :P

Cold snap will be moved to Ice block's position in the talent tree and its cooldown will be reduced. As a side note, it will no longer reset the cooldown on fire ward. Moving in to Cold snap's spot will be a brand new ability called Icy Veins. This new ability will decrease casting time for all spells by 20% and increases the chance that chilling effects freeze the target by 25%. It's an active ability, lasting 20 seconds and has a 3 minute cooldown.

sweet! I'll finally have an agro dump that's useful! (Don't get me wrong, I love the invis... but it takes 5 seconds to work, so it never actually saves me when I'm in trouble.)

I like the changes for frost mages, but I still won't be going back unless they get an even bigger boost. I can't do the same damage with frost as I can with fire. I'm already behind the bigger hitters in the guild, I'm not going further backwards :)

that's true. as long as i bring the water, the decurse, and the polymorph, I can get away with lower DPS due to "utility purposes" :)

Speaking as a frost mage, I like. Now, if it actually hits the server in the same form as the original listing from the WoW forums remains to be seen.

Well considering that it is only going to take 11 points in frost to get icy veins I think you'll see a lot of other builds besides frost with it (assuming of course it makes it to live in something close to what they're talking about now). The freeze chance increase portion of the spell is obviously a frost thing, but a 20% decrease in casting times would at the very least have me considering putting the points there if I were a fire mage.

Not that it matters to me, I've been deep frost since starting MC and every change Blizz has made has only made me put more points in it (2/0/59 now).
