Linux... again...

Well, I was just over at one of the Christian houses here at Kettering, and one of the guys had Ubuntu installed. Sure enough, I'm drawn into it again!

However, 1 questions.

The computer I looked at had a Windows Explorer type program and did not have to use the command prompt. This is something I desperately need. What is it and how do I get it? The last time I had Ubuntu installed I saw nothing of the sort (which is why I got rid of it).

Any info you guys could provide would be great!

Also, anyone have any info when Google's going to release their OS? I know it's hush-hush, but I'm VERY interested.

When you say "Windows Explorer type program" I think your talking about the Graphical User Interface or Window Manager, which for Ubuntu is called Gnome (for Kubuntu, KDE). These are called desktop managers. If you didn't see a graphical interface, if all you saw was a black screen with text, then it is likely something went wrong during the install. One possibility could be that the video card drivers didn't install properly. It's hard to say. If you could get it installed and running, then we can try to diagnose your problems.

I am interested in the Google OS too. I don't think Google has actually made any official statements pertaining to their OS venture, but they did donate (or something) to the LinuxBIOS thing recently. There are some web based OS's in beta/demo out now. I've come across one, but didn't really install it. Looked very basic.
