Hopefully this is the last time I post something about which laptop to buy. Right now I'm crossed between the Dell Studio 15, which just came on sale today, and will be off-sale Friday, and the HP HDX 16-1140us. I've read good reviews on both models and was/am ready to buy either one. Before I was really into the Studio 15 model, but since it was out of my price-range earlier I have come to like the HDX. Both laptops are very similar, the main differences are the brands, warranties, and graphics card.
Sorry if they are hard to comprehend, it is late so I didn't have the energy to make it all clear. There are links there that should send you to the HP/Dell sites to give you the stuff I just copied/pasted
.
Anyways, my big questions now are:
What are the differences between the two graphics cards?
What laptop is "better" and which one would you purchase if between those two?
Also if there is anything that might be a problem (I know I saw some laptops have 4GB RAM, but it came with Vista 32-bit that only supported 3GB)
*sigh* I'm sure I have a whole lot more questions, but I can't remember all of them. Thanks for putting up with my questions guys. After looking at laptops and specs for a couple weeks, I know it gets boring and annoying. Hopefully this'll be the last one. Right now I'm waiting for HP to get their HDX back in stock so I can buy it, but the Studio 15 just came back on sale and tossed my little plan into the air.
EDIT: For Tek: I know you'll be jumping at me for the 6-cell/9-cell battery difference between the two. I originally didn't like the HDX for that, but I figured in a couple weeks I'll have enough money to buy an extra battery, and I don't plan on being far from an outlet very much. Worse comes to worse I won't be able to play StarCraft in the car for a half hour. And, as I understand it, couldn't I get a 9 pack battery later in the future?
EDIT EDIT: Ah ha! more questions! Since starting my quest for a laptop I've come to learn a lot about computers and hardware. I now know what a processor really is, and how RAM works in relation to a processor and all that fun stuff. I even know about that whole cache stuff! And now it's really easy for me to understand and know which processor is better than the other. However, there are a few things I just don't understand. One of those is video cards. With ATI and NVIDIA having different model numbers and what not, I really have no clue how they compare. For all I know the HDX could have the newest video card out there, and the Studio 15 is using the oldest one Radeon has. All I know is 512MB > 256MB. Another couple of these items would be Wireless cards and Sound Cards. I'm not too worried about sound, I normally have my iPod on when I'm on the computer anyways, but a good wireless card is important right? So between these two laptops, how am I supposed to know if Intel WiFi Link 5100AGN is better than Dell Wireless 1397 802.11g Half Mini-Card? Or vise versa.
