personally, from the sparse amount of questing i did this past weekend in Factions, i found the Kuzicks to be a little hypocritical. they claim to worship nature, and such, but at least 3 of the quests were "go out and kill something." two of them were killing the "last of its kind." that doesn't seem too respectful of the things they claim to worship. at first, i thought i would prefer them, but now i'm not too sure. personally, i'd rather not ally with either one, because that's the kind of thing that started two world wars.

I think I'd like to change my vote to Luxon. Simply because after looking back, the Luxon areas and towns seemed more outdoors and bright. The Kurzick areas looked dark and too dungeon-like. Not to mention, they all looked like vampires. Another thing that comes to mind is that I witnessed a Kurzick traveler pass by a Luxon traveler and the Kurzick started insulting the Luxon and acting like he was disgusted with him. He was acting like he was so much better than him and just generally uppity. What did the Luxon do? He kept walking and didn't say a word.

I think we need to wait for the Factions release to get an accurate idea about the two groups. I didn't like the "kill the last of its kind" quests, either, but I also don't like the Luxon obsession with strength and might (and making a trade of the jade-ified sea life is still creepy to me).

As far as allying ourselves with one of the groups, it sounds like we'll be at a disadvantage if we don't. But I'm not so concerned about starting a war: from the preorder booklet, it sounds like the goal of the game is to unite against a common enemy.

A friend of mine pointed out, they liked the Luxons because they seem to be the 'light' side. Obviously making a starwars reference, but it makes sense. Anyhow, look at where you'll be spending most of the time playing: A dark petrified forest, or a sunny hill side. but waiting here is certainly an excellent option. Mainly cause now you kinda have to, but as it gets closer to the release theres no doubt that more fluff will come out for both sides.

As far as the religious aspects of the Kurzicks though....they're pagans

The Luxons are also a bit more...open, in their style of dress. Remember when you, Talon, and I were in the Luxon town and one of you made the comment that the Elder lady was practically falling out of her shirt? :p

And also, I'm sure altercations between travelers are coded into the AI to allow for both sides to trashtalk each other.

Didn't get too far into the Luxon quests to notice if this happened with Kurzicks there or not, but the Luxons are sneaky! In the forest, parties of Luxon bandit/assassin/raider/whatever you want to call them drop down from above, usually at the most inconvenient times...

This is similar on the Luxon side. It's a quest to clear out the Kurzick raiders.

I'm definitely voting Kurziks. First of all, I believe as CS Lewis did that theism is a necessary and important prerequisite towards monotheism - so a faction that worships one or more gods is in my opinion better than one that worships only strength and power (though those could certainly be considered "gods" in a sense). Second, anyone who studies the Old Testament much will realize that monotheism was a really difficult thing for the Israelites, and there were always segments of Israel (smaller or larger depending on the time) who veered off into worshipping multiple gods. So for us to be worshippers of the one true God in a nation that trends towards worshipping many gods, to me, is a neat parallel to OT times. Third, CGW characterizes the Kurziks as a nation which values gentility as opposed to brute strength - and isn't that more appropriate for us?

Finally, and perhaps most importantly - though Guild Wars IS only a game, I think we send a message to the non-Christian world by deciding one thing or another. A decision to abandon a more peaceful, spiritual faction for one that is more war-like might send the wrong message, especially in a world where many believe we are a country filled with Christian "Crusaders" who seek to enslave the world into a Christian theocracy - and who believe (with much evidence) that evangelism is motivated by a desire to force others to do what we want, rather than an expression of love as we claim. If you don't believe people think that, you really need to turn off Rush Limbaugh or whatever right-wing pep-talk show you listen to and open your eyes to how other countries as well as our own liberal media views us.

With all this said though, if the majority of other Christian guilds go Luxon - to me, that would certainly make a decision much more difficult.

On those points, Kurzicks would be the better choice. However it appears as though people aren't getting that deep into the background, and are joining faction based entirely on looks. might be wise to tackle a member from one of the other guilds and ask them why they went one way or the other. Perhaps other factors are being taken into consideration that no one here has yet mentioned.
