Jesus Christ as Author

Thus begins your journey Marcy. Prove those things to yourself and see if they hold true.

I anxiously await your findings.

Quote[/b] ]Here is where I believe logic and reason can really come into play! To begin by trusting in your heart, with all your heart and soul, that God's Word does not lie. Our understanding of it is at fault.

This is actually ILLOGICAL. How can you BEGIN to believe that God's word is perfect? Because God says so? That's not a logical argument.

He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he. Deuteronomy 32:4

In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;
Titus 1:2

His Word is believable, he cannot lie. To believe the Creator of the Universe is a wise thing, if nothing else! To see the glory and splendor of the Bible and how it miraculously came to us should bear some proof.

*sigh* Three hours of searching and I have let you down. I do not want to be known as the lady who figured out the mustard seed! nada I have not a thing. Was this verse talking about the mustard tree that grows on the banks of the Jordan? Probably not, because it is not an herb, nor is the seed small. Perhaps the truth lies in the fact that the seed you speak of is not grown in the earth but uses the tops of trees as its host? I have no earthly idea! I cannot explain it, but neither can I explain a love so great that He would leave His Heavenly Home and endure the shame of the Cross. I do not have the knowledge to tell you why I believe God is author and every Word out of the mouth of God is true. I only thrill that He chose to give me a Book!

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: II Timothy 3:16

I cannot prove every Word by science or history. I do believe the answers are out there and there are those who are able. But I get a headache trying to look at the information on opposing sides. I once thought that only things of religion brought disagreement...no, any information known to man can be refuted in some way.

I did see sand under a microscope! http://waynesword.palomar.edu/plfeb96.htm
(bottom of the page) The beauty and magnificence of this only makes me wonder why scientist and historians cannot agree and search out the things like the mustard seed, and all the other beautiful creations of God and simply see Him, agree, and show us how science and history are in agreement with the Bible. There are a few, but they seem sadly outnumbered.

Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory. Isaiah 6:3

I am not the one to prove anything, I simply know, those things of my heart cannot be explained away.

The verses in question are:

Matthew 13
31 Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is like to a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field:
32 Which indeed is the least of all seeds: but when it is grown, it is the greatest among herbs, and becometh a tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge in the branches thereof.

Keep in mind that LEAST comes from the Greek word mikros, which means small, little; of size: hence of stature, of length.

As I have stated, the seed of the epiphytic orchid is the smallest seed according to the Guinness Book of World Records. But they aren't the only ones smaller than mustard seeds. Poppy and wolffia seeds are also smaller (roughly the size of individual grains of salt).

Note, the verse does not say ONE OF THE SMALLEST, it says LEAST OF ALL SEEDS.

According to Christiananswers.net, the plant of the genus sinapis (mustard seed) is described as a pod-bearing, shrub-like plant. While it is possible for the plant to grow as high as ten feet, it is uncommon.

If you take a look at this plant, it hardly amounts to much of a tree. It is very spindly and not likely to support the weight of much of a bird.

So there you have it, simple facts. Do with them as you will.

(personally I think this inconsistency is pretty picky. there are others that are more important, but there's already a thread for that)

OK DV one more input. According to my footnotes in one of my Bibles (NIV) it is explained. First let me give you the translation ..... Matt 13:32
...."Though it is ths smallest of all your seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and perch in its branches." Footnotes say .... The mustard seed is not the smallest seed known today, but it wsa the smallest seed used by Palestinian farmers and gardeners, and under favorable conditions the playt could reach some ten feet in height. and also ..... Likely an allusion to da 4:21 suggestions that the kingdom of Heaven will expand to world dominion and people from all nations will find rest in it. ( da 2:35, 44-45; 7:27; rev 11:15) Blessings, "Angel"

I'm not going to defend this "inconsistency"

As I said, I think it's pretty picky myself. Especially when it gets twisted around to mean things it wasn't meant to.

I am wondering if He was meaning least as in comparison with the seed of Abraham, a woman, ect. It would stand to reason with its parable meaning in some of those verses.

Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters? I Corinthians 6:2 That was the only time the word smallest was used in the New Testament. Then there is the problem with the birds sitting in it. But then, preflood it is said tomatoes could grow to watermelon size because of the water surrounding and protecting the earth. Ideal growing conditions seems to lesson as the years wear on...a stretch, I know...

I know, I know! There is no need to beat a dead horse on this minute matter. Nevertheless, I know the Word is true and there is an explanation. Honestly could not find one in my research, but I know...the truth is out there! And the only acceptable, or truly true truth, is the answer that would agree with God's Word!

This continues to resurface!  Coincidence?  The original was written in 1935.  I believe it is God answering my prayers, my searching, my why's!  Blessings happen every day!  Amazing!  His Word always proves Itself alive and lively!
