iPod Video

Anybody know of a way to make a DVD movie into a file that can be played on an iPod?
I've tried a couple of free trial things but they only allow like 5 minutes. I'd rather not spend a ton of money after buying the iPod, so freeware would be preferable.

HandBrake. I'm in the process of doing my DVDs now, and it works quite well. Here are the links:

Oh cool. That was actually one of the first things I came across, but I didn't know it had a Windows version.

I did find something that works, though. It's a combination of DVD Decrypter and Videora iPod converter. I treid using it with the Princess Bride, and the resolution was a little off (A little stretched vertically) and the audio/video weren't synced, but I tweaked some of the settings and am converting it again now. After it's done, though, I'll test out Handbrake and see which I like better.

um isent ripping your dvds to your computer/ipod illigal.....
as if you brakeing the copy protecsens i know it is

Well...he isn't making any money from it...and I don't think they'll care if he already owns the DVDs...

Yeah, I certianly don't care much for the RIAA or the MPAA, they don't seem to be very charitable folks, taking TONS of money from fans of artists that are on their labels. Either way, neither MPAA or RIAA would care in the least if you copied your DVD to your iPod if you didn't try to distribute it on the internet.

Hmm. Whenever I try to use Handbrake to rip The Princess Bride and then load the resulting file into iTunes, I get the following error message: "Some of the videos in your iTunes library, including the video "PrincessBride.mp4", were not copied to the ipod, "Ben's iPod", because they cannot be played on this iPod."

The settings I'm using are
General
Audio: Language "English (AC3) (5 ch)", High Quality - 160kb/s"
Video: Normal Quality, No Subtitles
Bitrate: 400
Advanced Video
Codec: FFmpeg
FPS 23.976
Advanced Audio
Sample Rate 44100

EDIT: Doh, nevermind. reading the forum might have helped. Apparently it comes out an AVI, so I need to convert it to mp4.

EDIT 2: YAY! IT WORKS!!
