Introducing Xie Xia

Tek7 (Legacy)

CGA & ToJ President
Over the years, I've developed a reputation for investing time and thought into names for my MMO game characters. I hope my latest character name choice does not disappoint. :)

The name "Xia" means "glow of the sunrise or sunset." The surname "Xie" means "thanks." The idea behind the name is an attitude that is grateful for every sunrise and sunset.

The name uses the standard Chinese name order; that is, the surname comes before the first name. My character is Ms. Xie, not Ms. Xia.

In an effort to ensure that all guild members correctly pronounce my name character's name, I've found and linked two helpful .WAV files. Click each name to hear its pronunciation: Xie Xia (Sources: API Name Pronunciation Guide; Teaching Chinese Archaeology, Glossary and Pronunciation Guide)

It should be noted that this is my first ever female MMO game character. I have always rolled male characters, but my male monk character's running style was so bothersome that I decided to delete the character (Shaiming Li) and roll a female monk.

"Shaiming Li" or "Shaming Li"? :)

Welcome aboard sir! <salute> If you put as much effort into playing GW as you do into coming up with your name, I'll be watching for you coming up my back in the single player game. :)

And may I say it's good to put a "board" name to Shaiming Li (who is now Xie Xia.)

As far as a female character goes, it's as common as dirt around here! Almost all the female characters are played by males! *shrug*

"Shaiming." The name means "sunshine" in Chinese. Yes, a bad Christian pun, I know. :D

Heh, have no fear. My schedule doesn't allow for hardcore MMO play. I'm still playing World of Warcraft and GunZ, so I'm splitting my time between three games.

Okay, that's even more thorough than my character names! Very cool. Are you Chinese yourself?
I'm not, which makes me even more cautious when constructing Chinese character names.

"Since"? The UT2004 days are still here! Tribe of Judah now has a 5-slot deathmatch server. Click here for more information; come out and join us some time!

Aye, so I read. I think the weirdest part of playing a female character is just how weird it doesn't feel. If that makes any sense.

Of course, I've also written fiction for many years and imagining the female perspective is necessary for the job. Aye, I know this isn't quite the same, but perhaps it's related in some small way.
