i keep getting this wierd server error for these forums like every 4 or so clicks. what the heck?

yeah, that was annoyin me when i was in school in my programming class, tryin to check the forums, kept gettin this error =\

Somebody e-mail me a reminder (tek7 AT cgalliance DOT org) and I'll put in a ticket for this tonight.

I think I'm going to have our webmasters start putting in tickets for the site. So PureFun, SHARpsHOOT, if you read this today, you're welcome to put the ticket in first. Just tell our web host people that users are getting frequent "500 Internal Server Error" messages while browsing the forums and reference this thread.

Topic moved to CGA General Discussion forum to see exactly how many people are getting this error, at what time of the day, on what dates, etc.

Yeah, I made a topic about this yesterday. It usually happens to me around ten AM, but it does happen later.

It is particularly bad today, wondering if someone is mucking with file permissions as it does not seem load related. File permissions could be touched as an upgrade is happening somewhere on the server and some shared files are being touched. Or perhaps they are making changes to the webserver. I ripped this from a site regarding this type of message "It is likely that a server configuration change, CGI script, Java servlet, or other server side application has caused a fault." Unfortunately Apache config files affect the whole server. Thus the main problem with shared web sites but hopefully the company will respond quickly. I would suggest a service ticket would be the best course of action.

Wowzers, I just had a peak at their config file, they have over 731 web sites hosted on this physical server. Looks like there is a fair bit of duplication in the configs too. Hopefully they can get this cleaned up. With this many virtual servers, wouldn't surprise me at all if someone's cgi script is causing all of us some grief

Ohhh mah word, there are now three threads on this topic.

Hawk: I have to run to a doctor's appointment, but, if you get a chance, can you pick two topics on this and close it, leaving only one? After that, please put in a ticket with phpwebhosting.

If you don't have time, it's all good, and I'll take care of it when I get home. Thanks so much to everyone who's reported the error! Don't ever hesitate to report when something goes wrong with the web site.

Yup, I issued a help desk inquiry. Guess it is in their hands. I provided them some pointers (reviewing the /usr/local/apache/logs/error_log) showing what I believe is the source of the problem. Time will tell, any updates and I'll post here ... Assuming of course they actually email my account and not the email account which Tek7 will have to check on.

Alrighty, they are on the job, the service ticket has been updated and they will be actively monitoring for the situation to occur again. Please post here if you see the message again though I think they got it fixed now.
