Posting this to see the interest.

One of my goals for the first few months of this year was outreach. One way that was suggested by The Redeemed, one of the WoW guilds, was to hold a weekly Bible Study in a public area.

Looking for your opinions, please choose and, if so inclined, let me know why.

I suggest in our Guild Hall. why? because a bible study is about growing and learning spiritually, not an outreach event. in a place just by ourselves, we can study as indepth as we want and it would be a comfortable environment to facilitate learning. For example, classes aren't held in a public square, but in an isolated environment dedicated to that purpose.

also, it'd be really hard to read around everybody's chatting.

if we want to do an outreach event, sure.. but a bible study, imo, is between believers.

Bible study would be a noble undertaking. I have been thinking about it for quite a while in reference to our guild but there are inherent problems built in because of our non-denominational makeup.

I teach Sunday school. I go to a _________ church (enter church of your choice here). The problem comes when I try to lead a bible study and my belief conflicts with someone else's. I don't want some parent emailing me because I was trying to fill Little Johnny's head with my __________ (again insert name of your church or denomination) outlook.

On the other hand, I do not want to compromise my beliefs in order not to offend anyone. Catch 22.

Perhaps a 2-5 minute bible READING would be more appropriate because of our non-denominational makeup. Of course this would have to be on Teamspeak. The beauty of this is that we could do it every day if we want. Those that are in missions could listen without having to stop what they are doing. Just a thought.

I'm not really sure that you could call us non-denominational, rather, multi-denominational would hopefully be more accurate. and hopefully, if whoever leads the bible study interprets it properly, with the Holy Spirit's guidance, we shouldn't have many problems, if any. and as long as the leader stays away from some of the most commonly argued topics, again, few problems.

Personally, I think it's a great idea, but like others, I'm not too sure about the publicness. Also, i'm not too sure about having it in the guild hall. If there were some neutral place we could invite non-members to, and hold it there, then that would be better than either completely public, or completely private. Having it over TeamSpeak might be a way to do this, as non-guild members can listen in, and won't have the problem of not being able to go to wherever place we hold it.

This would be a good way for us to not only grow in our faith, but in solidarity(ooh, big word) also. so, Yes, let's do this thing, but be in prayer as to how God wants it to be done for our growth, and as a possible outreach to non-believers.

If we do decide to do this, maybe we should switch to a higer codec on the TS server ... it's /very/ hard to understand some of you sometimes.

Most ppl Ive played with know my opinion on TS. As such, I agree with ArchAngel's statements, though Halonic does bring up some very good points.

A few of us Officers have discussed this and actually what it means by Bible study is we would study a certain book. I believe we would read a certian part and who ever is up to the reading would probably say a few words about what that scripture means to them or something like that. I think that each week the Scripture would be posted. And people can enter posts about what that verse meant to them. In this way no one should post something why that person is wrong because depending where our personal walk with Jesus is a verse is going to to mean something different to you. What I want to see is the different points of view. We may not agree with what one person sees in a verse but there should be no posts telling people why they are wrong and why "I" am right. Simply post what the verse means to you. Just a thought. I have this awesome program called e-sword it is totally free but it is the entire Bible on your desktop with different concordances and everything as well as different Translations of the Bible. check it out at: http://www.e-sword.net

Well, looks like we've got at least 12 people interested.

I'll close this thread, start up a two new polls: what night we'll do this, and what we'll study. I'll go ahead and do run the first few sessions, and after that we'll split up the leading.
