Impressive use of Wii remotes

I don't know if this is for some sort of school project, work, or play, but this is really impressive. All about using Wii Remotes for tracking and VR simulation. Very nice. I came across them on Penny Arcade but here's the straight YouTube links:

Low-Cost Multi-touch Whiteboard using the Wiimote

Tracking fingers with the Wii Remote

Head Tracking for Desktop VR Displays using the WiiRemote

The last one is just plain amazing to me. He says something about not being able to see what he's seeing but I guess he left the camera hooked up while he was moving.

yeah ive seen these before and its pretty awesome.

something like that in our homes?? (i think you left out a word)

i personally cant wait for someone to make a car beeper, work for the house door and stuff. We are able to unlock/open our car door, but not our house? Thats lame.. it could even ring the doorbell so we know its locked!! HOW COOL WOULD THAT BE?!?!

Well in theory if you could program the same program that guy did, and set everything up the same way he did, you can have it right now. However, I'm a dodo with stuff like that so I can't put forth any man hours into such a contraption.

And I second the universal beeper remote. That might be entirely too useful to actually put on the market, consumers have to stay on their toes.

I'm waiting to read an article about a small business that purchases a Wii remote and builds two inexpensive LED light pens strictly for this application.

On a related note, is there any different between a laser pointer and a LED light pen? Because I have a Bluetooth adapter and I'm just nerdy enough to give this kind of thing a shot.

This may be the coolest new interface for puzzle games since the Nintendo DS.

I'm giddy just imagining playing Money Idol Exchanger with this interface. For the 2 other people in the universe who've played this game AND watched the YouTube video linked above, you'll understand my excitement.

I'd also like to see a Galaga remake played using this interface. PEW PEW!

My wife showed me this the other day and we both immediately commented how cool this would be for on-rails shooters like Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles. Imagine your partner calling out "We've got a barfer!" and ducking your head to avoid incoming zombie vomit.

...I guess you'd have to have played RE:UC to get the reference.

Maybe the Time Crisis series would be a better example, eh?

All in all, these are amazing videos. I'm expecting to hear that this guy gets picked up by a development studio any day now.
