The administration team has recently discovered that the host of our Counter-strike servers have began allowing adult contant to be hosted from their servers. Because of this, we have cancelled our subscription to Server beach. For more technical details, see this announcement.

I don't see whats the big deal, their a business. They sell their product to who ever wants to buy it. It has nothing to do with your game server.
But oh well, got to go back to using my old servers for a while.

I agree that if it isn't affecting the server or ToJ in anyway why worry about it? That's like not buying Marvel comcis because of their Maxx line of comics.

Note: Maxx doesn't contain any nudity to my knowledge just violence and cursing.
 
Heres why guys:

We are a Christian organization. By giving these people our money even though it everything they sell dosen't directly effect us is telling them that we support them, and we, as a Christians organization will NOT get our hosting and will NOT support any company that solicits adult material. In a nutsheel, its like saying that Christians support adult material because we get our hosting from a company that provides it.

Its also a matter of the reputation of the Tribe of Judah and all of its members. Although our server will eb missed for a few days, we feel very strongly that this is the right path to take, and we will always stand by that.
 
well with microsoft partnering up with the chinese gov to censor words like Taiwan freedom will u as a american not use any of their products because of their support to communism.

Of cource I don't buy any Tommy Hilfigger products because of what he said on Opera, is that the same thing.
 
I am sorry, but I will not give money to a company that is enabling sin because I feel very convicted to do so. Weather you think porn is ok or not is irelevant. It is pretty clear in the bible what God's stance is on the matter. To even think of another women in that matter is to commit adultry.

It is the same reason I won't buy something cheap off the streets. It is most likely hot and caused someone to commit sin by stealing it.

Now adult material is something very pervasive, especially in this type of "online" community. It can ruin marriages and relationships just like cheating with someone. In extreme cases, it has even financially ruined people. "I look at porn" falls under the worst pickup lines in the world. Even if it did get you a date, it would not be with a girl your mom would approve off, let alone God.

Actions speak very loudly about the convictions of a person. When we stand by the water cooler at work and chuckle when someone makes a rude joke, we are silently condoning that behaviour. Actions speak just as loudly when we say "Yes" to the question "You're not one of those christians are you?" I along with many other christians all to often stand on the sidelines and never speak up. I did that enough in high school and watched friends slip away and fall into sin. Age comes with it the knowledge that my check book speaks very loudly for my convictions.

At my work, it is pushed upon you to support United Way. But I could not. They recently have cut funding of the Boy Scouts of all things because the Boy Scouts would not allow homosexual leaders. United Way used their pocket book to push a world view, we should do the same to push Christ's view.

Plankeye's right. Money talks. By canceling our account with ServerBeach, we have affirmed that immoral business practices have negative consequences. Furthermore, we are no longer supporting a company that accepts money to host pornographic content. If enough clients cancelled their accounts in outrage, then ServerBeach would be forced to decide between disallowing adult content or going bankrupt. I doubt many clients will cancel their accounts as the apathetic "Whatever floats your boat" philosophy prevails in our culture, but that does not make Plankeye's decision the wrong one. Despite what our culture shouts from the rooftops, morality is not relative.

In short, I stand behind Plankeye's decision.

And while I welcome constructive criticism, this thread is neither the time nor the place to discuss the matter. If you have complaints or concerns, then please contact the appropriate parties privately.

Right now, Plankeye and other staff members are working hard to find a new host for our gaming server. Many people in this community invest their time and money into creating a family-friendly environment for gamers. When their work is met with thankless criticism, it's easy to understand why they grow frustrated.

During this time, I'd like for our members to do what they can: research potential dedicated server hosts, donate funds toward our next server, or send brief "thank you" messages to our server operators and admins. This is an opportunity for our community to come together and demonstrate how much we appreciate the hard work our staff members put into ToJ.

Instead, I read posts by those criticizing Plankeye for applying Biblical principles to a situation. This type of criticism is not constructive.

Again, if you have concerns, express them privately. If you would like to help support the hard-working members of this community, then I invite you to post a public "thank you" or help us research potential dedicated server hosts.

July 21, 2005 Update

  • Tribe of Judah has selected 1&1 as the next host for our dedicated server.
  • Members' ping results to 1&1's test server look good.
  • $hane has graciously agreed to cover the expenses for a temporary CS server. Once we raise enough funds and bring our game servers back online, the temporary server will be converted to a custom map server.
  • ToJ is accepting donations for the next dedicated server. At the time of this post, members have donated $131 so far.
  • Two recent donations require me to validate the new donations AT toj DOT cc Paypal account, which I hope to do next week.
  • Plankeye stated that $195 were left over after the ServerBeach account was canceled and will transfer the funds.
  • I've posted screenshots of sample advertisements on the ToJ CS Temp server to show to those interested in advertising on our game servers. I'm currently discussing appropriate advertising rates with staff members and trying to gather more information to present to potential advertisers.
  • No one has offered to take on the role of Fundraising Campaign Manager, which leaves me in charge of fundraising efforts. Real life issues are limiting the time I can spend online and the time I can dedicate to draft and compile the materials necessary to approach potential advertisers.
